Jamie O'Hara sparked angry scenes at Brighton's Amex Stadium after his response to chants about his weekly earnings from the sell-out following of 2,000 travelling fans.

O'Hara turned to the 2,000-strong travelling support and sarcastically applauded, prompting further furious chanting. He left the pitch at full time without acknowledging the fans, some of whom directed abuse at O'Hara as the team bus left the ground.

It was the only notable blemish on the record of the day as supporters won praise for their good-humoured response to relegation.

Glamour model Danielle became caught up in a spat on the website after the game. The Celebrity Big Brother star, who is pregnant, turned on supporters after she was subjected to insults about her husband's wages and performances this season.

She asked: "Why am I getting abuse from Wolves fans I don't know? Is it me that wears the shirt? My husband gives 100 per cent every time he plays but sadly some fans feel the need to abuse players!

"A true fan to me is someone who is behind the team win or lose so instead of calling my husband a disgrace, look at your own behaviour.

"Maybe if you were giving 100 per cent support they would have done better. Remember you're the 12th player in all this!

"As I said some fans not all! And the ones threatening me and my family are a disgrace."

Her comments further stirred the pot of fans looking to vent on social media – with some subsequently criticising the O'Hara family for being out of touch with the club's fans.

Many critics focused on Jamie's perceived earnings. The midfielder is believed to have earned £35,000-a-week when the club were in the Premier League.

He quit Twitter last year after controversy over comments about money.
