Wolves today swooped to sign Austria Vienna centre-back Georg Margreitter for around £2m.

The club moved quickly to reinvest some of the £24m from the sales of Steven Fletcher and Matt Jarvis by snapping up the Austria Under-21 international on a four-year contract.

Boss Stale Solbakken also wants a winger, with FC Copenhagen's £3m-rated Christian Bolanos and Manchester United's Robbie Brady among those on the radar, but Margreitter was the latest new face through the door as he became the fifth signing of the summer.

Solbakken said: "We have been searching for a central defender and Georg fits the bill. He wanted to come to England and we have been following him for the last six or seven weeks.

"We could have signed him earlier but he missed a game because he had a small ankle injury and we wanted to be absolutely 100 per cent sure.

"Our scouts have been keeping an eye on him and then I spoke to him and I am pleased that we have managed to bring him in.

"It is a good signing not only for this season but also for the future because I think he has good years in front of him."

Margreitter, who has been handed the No.34 shirt, said: "I am really happy about completing the move.

"I am very proud to sign for a club with such a big tradition in England and it's a dream come true.

"There were several English clubs watching me but it has all happened in the last few days and I am very excited.

"I have seen the stadium as well and have a good feeling about everything – there is a sense of familiarity about the club and I think it is the perfect size."

Margreitter, who is 6ft 2ins tall, is said to be one of the most highly-rated young players in his country, but has only played 27 games for Austria Vienna since joining them from LASK Linz in 2010 following a season-long loan spell at FC Magna Wr Newstadt.

Margreitter has been capped 11 times at Austrian Under-21 level.

n Captain Karl Henry has been ruled out of tomorrow's clash with Derby after picking up a hamstring injury in Tuesday's win against Barnsley.
