Time to map out a plan for Villa's future

Wolves offer Walter Smith manager’s job
Thursday 23rd February 2012, 8:57AM GMT.
Wolves have asked Walter Smith to be the club’s new manager, it was revealed today.
The club hopes to bring to an end 10 days of speculation over who will replace Mick McCarthy.
Former Rangers, Scotland and Everton boss Smith received a revised offer from Wolves last night after rejecting an initial, longer-term contract on Tuesday.
Club chief executive Jez Moxey contacted Smith again asking him to take the job until the end of the season, and the Glaswegian is now considering the post on those terms, with a decision expected later today.
Bookies today stopped taking bets on the 63-year-old becoming the new manager.
Smith’s appointment would mean that Wolves’ existing backroom staff would remain in place until at least the end of the season, when the club expects to make a more permanent appointment.
Wolves turned to Smith after former West Ham boss Alan Curbishley turned down the job for a second time on Tuesday and Reading manager Brian McDermott signed a new, three-and-a-half-year contract yesterday following an approach from Molineux.
Smith is known to Moxey from his first spell at Rangers from 1991-98 when the Wolves chief executive initially ran a basketball franchise for the Scottish giants before becoming commercial manager.
Interim Wolves boss Terry Connor was due to take his first press conference this afternoon at Wolves’ Compton Park training ground.Should Smith accept, he is expected to attend Saturday’s game at Newcastle.
Former Charlton and West Ham manager Curbishley had been the frontrunner for the job but the 54-year-old twice rejected an offer over a lack of “shared vision” with chairman Steve Morgan.
Mr Moxey today refused to confirm or deny that the job had been offered to Smith.

Very disappointed- Not with Walter Smith, But with the fact that Terry Connor will remain in position until at least the end of the season… He is a big part of the problems down here!
Good luck if you take it Walter but because of Connor im voting with my feet!
Season ticket and Newcastle tickets are going in the bin…
Report abuse
Well… what can I say ? Bizarre… utterly Bizarre…
May have done OK in the Scottish league but if you are manager of Rangers then who isn’t going to do ok?
A bad , bad day.. but I guess we have to get behind him IF he takes the job.
Loads of Premiership experience then. I hope it works out for you Wulfies, I really do.

What a disaster and an embarrasment we are becomming and Moxey & Morgan what a joke. Why didn’t they make this decision at christmas or at least have a plan, why would a player really respond to someone who is a temp appointment. I believed MM should have gone way before he did, and i really appreciate what he had done for the club, but we might as well have let him see it through rather than this farse.
i would also like clarity on “SHARED VISION” to me Curb was the best candidate.
Let’s hope my journey to Newcastle wont be as embarrasing.
Who?
At least we have somebody lined up now, though.
Well, well, well – I was well aware that his name had been banded about, but didn’t realise how serious it was.
IMO, if he takes it until the end of the season, that will be the best for the club and then depending on where we end up, the 2 M’s will have longer to sort things out.
Still think a fiver on Wolves to win at St James’ would be ‘worf a punt guv’!
WE ARE WOLVES!!!
Absolute and utter shambles.
While the poor performances on the pitch have been visible to all there was an assumption that behind the scenes things were being well run and Morgan and Moxey knew what they were doing. The last couple of weeks have proved the opposite.
Did they give any thought to a replacement before pulling the trigger McCarthy? Seemingly not.
A short term appointment will destabilise the team even further.
He beats Beetroot head hands down, but why oh why have we not approached KEEGAN with the same deal or longer term??????
Anyones better than Bruce, but whats wrong with giving Ray Wilkins a shot?
1 – We shouldnt want him because he is “better than Brue” but because he could be the man to put the boot up some of our underperforming players.
Obviously he is not our number 1 choice as well documented but he is our number 2 choice. When the dust settles I think you will find we offered the job to Curbs and him only. Interviews and interest are one thing mixed with press speculation, but actually offering the job is another. How many players are we linked with in the Summer? Same thing happened here. Media frenzy but no real news. Until today.
WHAT AN APPOINTMENT!!!!
Get him in quick.
Never mind looking below us we could easily finish top 8 with Walter in charge. Just look at how he bossed a tough Scottish league when he was Rangers manager. It’s also worth noting how appalling they’ve been since.
He had a wonderful spell in charge of Everton in his first foray into English football and some Everton supporting friends talk about how amazing the football was.
Watch out tesco boys, the might phoenix is rising.
Never mind the 5-1 in your cup final, we will have the last laugh.
Walter smith’s orange and black army.
oh dear. He has a poor prem record, 1st man to nearly take everton out of the flight for a 100 years or so.
Out of touch with the prem and will have to rely heavily on clipboard for which player plays where.
He`s obviously been offered a boatload of cash in the shortterm to keep us up so don`t blame him for putting away his golf clubs for 3 months.
Curbishley is the man, heres hoping for a dramatic turn of events.
Very strange appointment but all the best to Walter Smith and lets hope he can keep us up. Very relieved its not Steve Bruce and at the end of the season we can review our options.
In the summer whoever is manager and whatever league we are in its time to get rid of the deadwood such as Vokes, Hunt, Berra and Elokobi (great bloke!)
Best of luck to the new Gaffer!
NO NO NO NO,We need someone long term, who wil bring in new coaching staff and fresh idea’s. Yet again it is the cheap Option for Mr Morgan and Moxey. Curbishley rejected the job due lack of shares vision in which way the club was going. I am afraid we all know which way we are going thanks to morgan and moxey.

A nice little retirement bonus for him. This is just abysmal. I mean really abysmal.

It would be more of an exclusive if the E&S revealed the name of the man Wolves HAVEN’T offered the job to.

Probably a good choice in the short term but what a bloody mess at our great club.

I hope Walter takes up the challenge. Pity about the backroom staff though.

Well doesn’t that stink of panic!
Better than bruce but by a nose hair!
Old ideas again though, football is heading in a different direction, old ideas judt dont cut it anymore! but if its only til end of season lets hope he can fill a gap & hopefully then we will have someone lined up long term!
Thinks its good as a stop gap but nowt more!
Whats the betting he says no! if it wasnt so depressing it would be funny!!

New to this so don t shoot me down. Went on to the poll that e&s ran. Approx 60% were against this appointment. Why? Don t get me wrong, not criticing people who voted against. Limited info in Oz about the guy but seemed to have success at Rangers and also as Scotland manager so seemingly must have some idea just curious to know why people are against him

I struggle to comprehend just how much more of a mess the club could have made of this!
It is bad enough being a laughing stock on the pitch last sunday but to prolong the agony is inexcusable.
I do not understand that, given the current position, that post McCarthy options weren’t considered going back to pre-date the last transfer window, and consequently do not understand the lack of direction in the next managerial appointment. Talk about planning, or lack thereof.
Survival is critical so how we are where we are eludes me!
What changes can we expect to see with 12 games remaining, post Newcastle, with the same obviously ineffectual coaching staff remaining in situ…………..it obviously hasn’t worked over the last 3 seasons so why should it make a miraculous difference now?
Please, please think long and hard and get it right.
We all support the club, regardless of who runs or manages the team but equally have a passionate desire for success……….
Make it so!!!!
I have mixed feelings on this one.
Pleased if Smith takes it up, a manager with vast experience.
Disapointed that Connor along with other ‘not-up-to-its’ will remain in place.
Pity he can’t bring in Wilkins as his No.2

Walter Smith sounds a bit better! take no notice of paper talk though ive learnt that with wolves!

Another day, another disappointment!!!!!!!!
Please tell me this is an early April fool.
Managing Rangers and managing a Premiership team are two different beasts. Ask Villa & Birmingham fans!!!!!!!!
Bring back Mick!!!!!!
Are you lot having a laugh?! Walter Smith is a fantasic appointment. He’s a winner, a motivator and will thrive under a 13/12 game challenge to keep us up. While Moxey and Morgan have become Laurel and Hardy Smith is a right coup in my opinion. McDermott was scraping the barrell and in the short-term with a view to get a young manager in the summer this is good good business.
Just glad we’re making some progress, regardless of what happens the man needs a long period in charge. Get the backroom staff out at the full time whistle on the last match of teh season!
For the last five years I really did think the people running our club had an idea of what they were doing, and where we were going. This has completely changed my mind. Utter madness. Any better than Mick, at this late stage of the season ? No. Utter madness.
Nice one 17.
Moxey probably got the numbers mixed up and phoned him by mistake. Must have been shocked when a care home answered. Easy to get confused when you’ve been on the phone all day talking to lots of people. I’ve done it myself with a touchscreen.
The question is: who was he really calling?
An object lesson in incompetency. Five good years of stability, progression & continuity tipped down the drain by poor management. Now
it seems that the management is worse in the boardroom than the dressing room. Embarrassing!
does this mean he will close his butchers shop in the manders centre????
Well at least they’ve made a decision, which buys them more time to get the right man in on a permanant basis. And that will depend on whether we are in the Premiership or the Champioship.
I expect Smith to be gone after his temporary contract ends in May. A lot of the players will probably assume the same and may well already be making plans to leave the club.
If he can motivate the players and avoid relegation, all well and good but I’m not hopeful. Nevertheless he deserves a chance and I wish he well – for all Wolves supporters sake.
If he takes the job good luck to him and we should support him. Feel sorry for him though because he is lumbered with the existing backroom team. Can’t help thinking it is an act of pure desperation by the deadly duo though. From what has happened to date I reckon Jez Moxey’s infamous Wolves DNA philosophy referring to future managers simply stands for “DONT NEED AMBITION” !!
Thank god it’s not Bruce. But the last 10 days have been an embarresment to the club. Never have I seen such a calamity for a manager. We’ve also seen Morgans true ambitions for the club. 5 plus managers rejecting us, most noteably Curbishley for a “lack of vision”. Cleary Morgans more intrested in revamping Molineux, rather than investing in a team worthy of Premier League Status. A serious rethink in where the club is going is needed.
Best of luck to you if you take it Walter, your going to need it.
It wasn’t 10 days of “speculation”, it was 10 days of interviewing the wrong people, making unrealistic offers, embarrassing rejections and the general appearance of decapitated farmbirds. The rest of the division, indeed the rest of football, is laughing at us right now, and not because of our funny accents.
Rubbish! I could win the SPL/micky mouse league. If this is the best you can do wolves, then I would start to wave the white flag!

12. Bore off. Most fans wouldn’t be happy with Mourinho. Get a grip.
I think this would be a sensible short term appointment. Our expectations are not high so if he can keep us up then great.
We were never realistically going to research, source and appoint a long term candidate in a couple of weeks. This will give us some breathing space to identify the right man going forward.
Morgan is paying the price for staying loyal to McCarthy for too long. We all know he should have gone at the end of last season.
What a Joke!! the whole country now know our club is run by two clowns.
Embarrassing that after 10 days we offer the job to a dinosaur with limited premier leauge experience. Basically anybody with any creditable repuitation refuse two work with the two clowns. DOOMED :~{
What a shambles! Premier experience yeh but how many years ago. When someone like Ray Wilkins throws his hat into the ring, surely his worth considering.
Walter Smith is a good man manager hope he can get every last ounce out of our players till the end of season.
We are Wolves
Report abuse
For 13 games, I would take him. Gives us a chance to co-ordinate a proper strategy and sign a forward looking Manager. Effectively for me the 3 Ms have brought humiliation to the club. It has been obvious for many months that Mick was no longer the man to take us forward and where was the planning, none obvious, who would want to take the job now? You couldn’t make it up. Mick deserves the plaudits he has received, but it was time for him to go.
Actually his record is excellent….and the only reason he was pants at Everton is because the board didn’t back him….good luck here then!

Well i hope you all fans screaming for mick to go are very happy with yourselves this morning same situation with dave jones and he was replaced by hoddle . I hope walter smith proves me wrong i really do even if he does keep us up we could be going into preseason managerless what sort of preseason this that !!!!!

Mick was on a 1 year rolling deal……….. Now we have a 3 month rolling deal lol Doesnt get much cheaper.
6.5M on Doyle, 7M on Fletcher, cant we have a bit of investment in the most important person of the lot, the manager???
I think he could be a good short term appointment but Terry Connor needs to clear off, someone needs to come in long term with his own backroom staff.
Apart from that at least we may have someone in now. Curbishley was my first choice and I would love to know what differences in opinion he had for Wolves future with Morgan. Im convinced Morgan doesnt know what he is doing on the football front. Kudos for the new stand though grrrrrrrrrr
Report abuse
Maybe a good thing to get Walter in but surely if we are to move forward we must also get rid of Terry Conner who has so far survived 6 managers if he stays then it will be the 7th!!!He must be the luckiest coach in the world!!

Walter smith is a good man and a good manager, The players will want to watch out, friend’s of mine are Everton fan’s and they say he had them supper fit and playing great football,
We should bring a young manager in with him..
Good luck Walter you’l need it!
Morgan (and Moxey) – you have made an almighty mess of this. Are you fit for purpose? Have the decency to tell the fans what your ‘shared vision’ for this club really is. Is it based on bricks and mortar or the playing squad? Why did Premiership Wolves have so many problems attracting players last summer? If you are uncomfortable with the wage demands of the Premiership then tell us, but do not pretend that we can progress without serious investment in players. If you prefer to invest in land rather than players then get out, take TC with you as he must take much of the blame for the failings on the pitch, and we will give you your £10 back.

Frobowolf is right he was sacked from Everton because they finished in the bottom half of the table 3yrs running and they were going down until they sacked him and David Moyes kept them up by finishing 15th.Hardly the right pedigree for English premier league to keep us up

Better than Bruce, however i do question the management of all this. the owner made the decision to sack Mick. ok fair enough BUT before sacking him surely you would find the next manager before sacking him?
if we was mid table in no mans land ok fair enough but we are no bang on for relegation now. we would have been better off sticking with Mick till summer becauase there was no doubt the players was behind him.
as for being turned down by curbs, this is a real worry if its true they didnt share the long term vision plan as that only means one thing, no real ambition apart from finishing 17th every year.
If thats the case then maybe the championship is better for us cus at least we will win most games.i will be accused of being a baggies fan which is not true but this is really embarrassing.
Moxey has to go – Morgan please pay him off
Morgan – show ambition please.
I think we should be gratful for Morgan and not having a owner who pretend to show ambition and the club go into admin etc. the list is long isnt it?
we wanted Mick out (me included) look at us now, are we better off?
some wolves fans want Morgan out, us wolves fans should be careful what we wish for as RH said.

He hasn’t accepted yet has he?
The way I see it, anybody with managerial experience will turn down the offer (which is bound to be pittance with unrealistic terms) which has been the case so far.
It also seems to me, that certain contenders like Curbs, were messed around in a very amateur and embarrassing way by the board. Curbs was willing to do the job, and was one of the first to come out and say so, but he must have thought Morgan/ Moxey were having a laugh.
I have no problem with Smith. He is a professional bloke who will do things in the right manner. What I do have a worry about is the fact that Curbishley & Morgan had very different views on the future for Wolves. What the hell does that mean ?? How can we not convince a guy who’s been out of work for so long that we are on the right track with our plans ??
How sad. Steve Bruce would have been infinitely better. One elderly Scottish manager in toytown Scottish football. What on earth is this vision that everyone refuses to serve under except poor old Mick that we are now reduced to such desperate acts.
Here’s a vision for you, lack of planning, lack of foresight, lack of drive, lack of ambition, lack of funds and you must agree with us always: are you prepared to work under this.!!! The poor players and fans, but do you think heads will roll over this debacle, i think not. We will go down and i will support Wolves but please use the opportunity to learn from best practice elsewhere, if not I see a poor future.

This is a good appointment for 13 games,ok Scottish SPL not up to much, but the guy made europa final and hashandled big time players like gazza and co,also been Scotland manager did a good job with rubbish players and was number 2 at utd with fergie, has experience at a bigger club than wolves, everton, and won bags of titles at rangers,he gets the best out of average players and let’s be honest ours players are average,he’s also hard as nails and we kick them up the backside and knows how to organise a defense unlike Mick,I say give him a go it only 13 games.

Like you all – I have watched a pretty poor standard of football to a point where calling it football last week was unkind to the under 6′s in the local park…. it was dire!
Saturday regardless of the result will show what “metal” the players have, and what Ba*** the backroom staff have regarding the coaching and playing style.
We all know the current “stlye and system” is not working, the question is will the favourites play at the weekend – will the formation change to suit the players capabilities – and will the players selected give 100%?
Will be an interesting game and hopefully we can stay up – otherwise the summer could be very very long..

At least Morgan will get what he wanted, the new North Bank full to capacity, because we can knock the other 3 stands down and fit all home and away fans that will be left after this appalling period of mismanagement.
Plans should’ve been in place long before McCarthy went, its obvious they hadn’t thought about it before and were pushed into a decision when fans were voting with their feet.
I don’t blame any decent manager for turning down this appointment, 12/13 games to save a team, all the pressure on them, having to work with a championship team and below average backroom staff.
I find it comical that we expect a top name manager, why? because we’re a big premiership team with lots of finances at the managers disposal and a supportive chairman willing to dip into extensive funds at their request to improve the team and make them an established top 10 team? Dont be ridiculous, best we can hope for is the team manage themselves with a sunday pub team coach in clipboard to stand there when they train.

Reading half of the messages above leaves me red faced and embarrassed / ashamed to be associated with fellow WWFC fans. For goodness sake stop believing we can attract managers of Benitez’s calibre and realise that wolves aren’t the big club you seem to think we are.
Moving on to the possible smith appointment – this will trn out to be a sated bit of business albeit a haphazard one. He is well respected in the game, and you will only have to read what sir Alex has to say about him. He knows his football, his players and has an authoritive grip on his squad.
Some of you posters saying he is too old etc is gobsmacking. He is younger than redknapp! Hopefully he can galvanise the existing squad. Fans need to get behind the team NOW because before you know it
The season will be over and all you’ve done is grumble.
P.s I am not a happy clapper or a numptie!

34 Bring back Mick.
Walter Smith is 63 which I believe is the same age as Harry Redknapp, I think we would all like him down the Mol, so age is not an issue.
I for one am just glad this sorry state of affairs is coming to an end and we can get on with the rest of the season. Keep an open mind and see how it goes until the end of the season.
Would like to have seen a change in the coarching staff at the same time but what does Conner have on Moxey to out last 6 Managers??
Hopefully Walter Smith will be confirmed later today as manager and put an end to this pathetic manager merry-go-round debacle.
It is of no matter if the media were making up stories or not, it has been plainly obvious that messrs Morgan and Moxey have made one enormous pigs ear of the situation and shown to all the world how incapable they are in being able to compromise on their views and also to employ the best man available for the job, ie Curbishley.
Now I am not suggesting Walter Smith is anything but a good manager but where was his name on the initial list, at the very top?
I don’t think so and after Curbishley turned them down twice, McDermott and Poyet turned their backs on the job, Steve Bruce who it is reported has been waiting… and waiting for a response but not immediately receiving one and must have been getting more and more frustrated by the hour in reading this man or that man had been approached.
But sorry Steve many of us did not want you at Molineux anyway but that does not excuse M & M from not letting you know.
So Mr. Smith, good luck for the forthcoming games and hopefully you can do what Mick McCarthy couldn’t, lift Wolves well away from the relegation zone.
Only 1 blackspot on the horizon though, Wolves will have to go through this charade of finding a manager all over again in the Summer as it seems Walter Smith has only taken the job short term.
Let’s all hope M & M have learnt a very painful and humiliating lesson and plan for that day well in advance. A repeat of the merry-go-round should see them both removed from Molineux on the grounds of total incompetence!

Gutted gutted ,gutted. Where does this fit in with either a ” been and done it manager” or a young and hungry appointment. The sad truth is the only person who fitted Morgans remit was MM. Never one to complain about wage restrictions and budgets which over the past 3 years have cost us many signings. This is absurd, foolish and if we get away with it, it will not be a masterstoke by Morgan it will be luck. Smith has spend most of his time in a very average league, i could have managed in Scotland in fact i could still be playing up there. Tagged off, angry, fed up.
Can anyone else see the obvious friction betweem Moxey and Morgan. Dont blame Moxey for this whatever we think of him, he does his bit at the request of the owner.

So Walter Smith is now favourite for the Wolves managers job. Not a bad shout, I’ve always thought he was a great butcher and his pork pies are beautiful :) However, would have preferred Keith Boxley.

I agree with you that it could be a good appointment- but TERRY CONNOR is still there- Really! I think the ammount of time hes been there he must have something on Moxey- They need to strip the lot out… All of them Taff Evans, Connor and the others…
Id go with Smith but someone like Wilkins along side him…
Terry Connor- Really!

Walter smith has a win rate in the premier league of 31% against Micks 16% with Wolves, so that is an improvement hopefully.
The same coaching staff though? Its not looking good.

Funniest post of the day! Thanks for the laugh! You want to get rid of Doyle but keep two players who …errrr… don’t actually belong to us… ie, Bassong & Frimpong! Frimpong has already gone back to Aresnal! Brilliant!

If Mr Morgan wont appoint Steve Bruce coz he may upset a few “fans”, then im afraid we do not have a very strong leader at the helm. He`s got at least 10 years of Prem experience under his belt and if Curbs dont want it, give it to Bruce. So Walter Smith won some trophies at Rangers. Well gee, theres a suprise!!
At the end of the day whoever they appoint they are still going to have some people moaning about whoever it is. Reading posts on here it would seem that majority of you did not want them to appoint Steve Bruce, so surely it not being him as got to be a good thing.
Walter Smith would not have been my first choice but if it does turn out to be him until the end of the season, we need to get behind him and stop the arguing amongst ourselves and at the games as this as we have already seen only has a detrimental effect on the players and their confidence, which is already at a all time low at home, just look at the recent home results compared with the last few away ones.
Curbishley would have been my first choice but we do not know the real reason that this has not happened, people are only presuming they know the reason by putting two and two together and maybe not having the right answers, ie believeing what they want to whether it is right or wrong
A long term appointment may not be the right answer at the moment either, if they appoint somebody on a long term contract and they failed miserably they would not be any better situation than they would have been if Mick had stayed in charge, who incidentaly i think should have gone around about the time of the Swansea game, or at the end of last season.
We all moan about the stringent fincances that the hierarchy at Wolves work by but how would feel if we was in the same position as Rangers or Portsmouth, then we would all be moaning about them spending to much money and putting the future of the club at risk. It was on sky recently that there are at least 8 premier clubs that are currently very close to being in similar circumstances, do you want them to go the same way.
I am not sticking up for them, just trying to look at things realistically and at the larger picture.

Good luck to whoever takes over but the handling of the whole affair has been a shambles. It is clear that the 2Ms had not even considered the possibility of MM moving on, either through sacking or resigning.
God knows how many have turned the post down. Transparency is a rare commodity at Molineux. Of course there will be a great deal of speculation but how much confidence should we have.
Now it looks like someone who has been put of the game for a while and away from the PL even longer is about to come in and work with TC and the rest of the muppets.
I thought MM’s time had come, last season if I’m honest, but couldn’t understand why they sacked him at this stage of the season. Little point really and even less if the same coach etc are going to remain in place.
I’ll definitely not be joining the EB club and will keep hold of my money until we all know what is going on.
No manager, poor team, hopeless first team coach, half built stand that will never be full. Omens look good. What could be worse? Injury to the only striker who can score.
I think the writing was on the was during the transfer window, two loan signings (not their fault they were injured) who couldn’t get a sniff of their own first team squad, some second rate Scandinavian and a host of players out on loan, including the only real alternative to Karl Henry.
The future is fizzy pop.
One very fed up Wolves fan.

Well i didn’t see that coming. He’s ok short term another nice bloke I hope he keeps us up. As for the the 2 clowns running this club its time you went back to the circus cos it left town a long time ago. You’ve have completely ruined this club, its name its reputation and its ability to attract the right people. I hope Walter can keep us up because the bottom line is if we get relegated then we will be back to square one when MM took over, no manager, no decent players cos they will have all left and probably no money. Damned disgrace Morgan.

Not my first choice (or many others it appears)but far more preferable to Bruce, Strachan and Roy Kean, if he does take the job he will get my full backing. I’d have thought that Ray Wilkins would have been in the frame, especially as he has declared an interest in the job, would be great if he came along as Walter Smiths assistant, and then took over fully at the end of the season!

Walter Smith’s record is second to none in the Scottish division. He is know for installing passion and fight in to his players. Sound familiar? But contrary to this he is also very good tactically…hoorah!
This appointment would be a very good one in my opinion, but obviously it can only be assessed come the end of the season, due to Smith’s massive experience. Good appointment from the 2 Ms it seems. I take back the anger and frustration i directed to them earlier on in the week. Come on Walter, do us proud!

Cant believe some of the negativity on here. This would be a fantastic appointment for wolves! Forget his Premier League record, he managed one of the worst Rangers sides ever to three consecutive championships and a UEFA Cup Final with virtually no money to spend. He was also in charge for one of the clubs most successful periods in the 1990s. For rangers fans he is one of the best if not THE best managers in the clubs history. Wolves fans should be flipin rejoicing!

Normally you employ someone through a process of elimination – you interview the applicants then eliminate the ones you don’t want to end up eventually with the applicant you do want !!
Wolves have used the unusual technique of getting the candidates they did want to eliminate themselves thus leaving us with the only candidate who still wants the job but that we didn’t really want.
Words just fail me….

I cannot understand some of the animosity being shown to Walter Smith even before he has accepted the job. Who did you expect Jose Mourhinio ? . Walter Smith is exactly the right man with the credentials to get you out of the mess you are in. He will bring to the club all of the things that Roy Hodgson has done down the road and you can look forward to his appointment with optimism.

Yippee – we have a man who can win a 2 horse race with the best horse – so we might finish above Wigan.
No record of success in a proper league or with a team stuck in the bottom three… a decent championship manager would have been better than this….. just more proof that Morgan has NO clue about running a club at this level.
Shocking !!

If Walter Smith comes we need to support him but unfortuately he has Clipboard by his side! For the people slating him, this is what Britain’s most successful manager ever has to say…..
“There are few people in the game with his experience, knowledge and technical ability,” said Ferguson.

I cannot believe all the negativity surrounding this appointment after reading the fans comments. He is a legend in Scotland. He over performed in both of his jobs for Scotland. He had a disappointing time with Everton, sure, but who doesn’t have a bad job? I think we should all be grateful that we have been able to appoint(nearly) someone of Walter’s character as manager. Yes the Scottish league is a joke now, with only two front runners, but look how badly Rangers are doing with out him and when he won 7 LEAGUE TITLES ON THE TROT the Scottish league was a lot more competitive and of a higher standard than it is now. Well done Morgan and Moxey! I think it is sensible that we have kept our coaches in as well as they can help and advise Walter. One wish though…Wilkins as number 2…PLEASE!!!!

Im an Albion fan and im not here to take the biscuit out of you all.
But what shocks me really is how so many of you fans can justify Walter Smith or in my opinion MORE SO Alan Curbishley to be better than Steve Bruce, I see Bruce plays pretty dull football, but he is the most upto date out of the three and before sunderland he was talked as next England or Utd manager after Fergie, if he managed rangers like smith I’d put my hat on it that they’d have won the league. Curbishley amazes me, the man is an arrogant loser, he thinks he can walk in to a “TOP” job, he would not get a better offer than Wolves considering he ain’t managed in donkeys years and when he did he made full use of transfer markets, as an Albion fan appointing Curbs would leave me contemplating if JP had lost the plot, how the mind boggles.
If you wanted experience of PREMIER LEAGUE relegation battles, Bruce is your man.
If you wanted a winner Roy Keane surely.
If you want to get relegated then left in the lurch, Alan Curbishley.
If you want a short term plan and 50/50 chance then Walter Smith.

My theory relating to Terry Connor is that he is in exactly the same situation as Bruce Willis in The Sixth Sense.
We can see him. He thinks he is helping. Morgan & Moxey can’t see him.

I know we all love the Wolves but I wonder sometimes when I read these posts if most of them are from Morgans, Moxeys and MCarthys relations. We were told by Morgan that he had set his sights on Alan Curbishley, he has had 2 attempts and cannot find common ground. No wonder when Curbishley is reading they are approaching everyman and his dog to offer the job. Where in the job description of I’m only going to appointment a proven Prem manager, no novices allowed come Poyet, Mcdermott and all the other championship managers. For pitys sake if we can’t get Curbishley, Hughton or a manager of similar standing how do we expect to stay up and even more importantly plan a format for promotion back from the championship next season. 13 match appointment is a joke would any of you take a job on those terms. No plan for the future accept for possible property developments.
No early bird for me and possibly 10000 others.

The worrying thing here is why no-one wants the job long term?? The “shared vision” to me smacks of Morgan telling em all if we go down the better players will be sold and there will be bugger all money for new players. Some of you are like me, quite optimistic about him coming here, if he does of course.
Others love to keep repeating the phrase, “Be careful what you wish for” as if its the cleverest comment ever uttered by anyone.
And I dont get it. Playing terribly and all the signs of relegation, to possibly appointing a manager who has a win rate in the Premiership of almost double MCCarthy…….. Doesnt sound too bad to me to be fair.
IT WASNT WORKING WITH MICK!!!! Bad tactics, fromeven kicking the ball to keeper at start of the game for him to hoof, bad Subs, bad formations and terrible losses. 14 points from 66. Demotivated players. No signs of improvement. Relegation looked certain.
A new manager can always breathe new life into the same bunch of players. Its a risk worth taking. New tactics, new formations. I will be willing to bet that the new manager whoever it will be, will gain more points over the next 13 games than the last 13 games under Mick?? Anyone wants to disagree and take that bet??

If this appointment doesn’t prove that Morgan expects us to be relegated i don’t know what will.
If Morgan had any belief in us stopping up he would hire the man to do it – and that man would deserve a 18/24 month contract now.
This 12 game deal is so bizzare I can’t see any point in it at all – where is the incentive to the players, the manager and of course us, the fans.
If Smith joins and we stay up, and then he leaves, what are we saying ?? If we go down and he walks away, what are we saying ??
Just more Morgan getting by on the cheap and when we go down it will be all Mick’s fault – but Moxey will still get his fat bonus and Morgan will still be building posh houses and making ground changes that no one wants.
The death of our club is happening right in front of us !

It would seem Wikipedia can now predict the future in regards to the walter smith article. No wonder my tutors didnt want me using it.
In terms of Smith. Hes a decent manager, but lets face it, most of his sucess has been at Rangers, which isnt exactly the hardest thing to do, considering they only have 1 opposition to compete with for those trophies.
He did well at Scotland, but then again, Mick did excellent at Ireland. I think this appointment could go either way, but unlike many on here, I will be giving my support to any manager that comes to this club, as lets face it, Premier league management is hard enough as it is, without your own fans making it even harder.
