Time to map out a plan for Villa's future

Wolves let Andy Keogh rejoin Leeds
Monday 15th August 2011, 11:45AM BST.
Wolves striker Andy Keogh was today on his way back to Leeds in a loan move until January.
The 25-year-old, who travelled with the Wolves squad to Blackburn on Saturday, is returning to the club where he started his career.
Keogh becomes the 12th departure from Molineux this summer following the exit of David Jones, goalkeeper Marcus Hahnemann, Greg Halford, Nathan Rooney, Johnny Dunleavy, Michael Mancienne and Geoffrey Mujangi Bia.
Danny Batth, Scott Malone, Steven Mouyokolo and goalkeeper Carl Ikeme have also been loaned out.
Wolves chief executive Jez Moxey told the Express & Star today: “Andy is going up there today and we’re doing some paperwork to let him go on a standard loan until the next window.
“I spoke to him yesterday and asked him what he wants to do and he’s prepared to go.”
Moxey added that the loan could become a permanent transfer but was a temporary agreement at the moment.
He said: “We are of the view that we would prefer a sale for his sake but Leeds need some help more than anything, so this loan is a good arrangement for everyone.”

Good luck. I know not everyone likes you but you played your role in getting us promoted and that can never be taken away from you. Not much impact in the premiership but your goal against Wigan in the first season still earned us 3 points which could have been the difference between staying up or going down.

Keogh did well for us in his time here, but at the end of the day, he offers us Doyles work rate without doyles ability to go with it. Im sure he will do brilliantly for any lower league club, and would probably do a job for a newly promoted club.
Good luck Andy, you were one of the players that helped kick start our new regime of young and hungry players, which has turned out to work better than anything we have tried in the past 20+ years.

Never gave less than 100%, always had shaggy hair – good luck

Talking about transfers let Arsene Wenger know that he can buy Jarvis for £50,000,000.
That should cool his interest. Cheeky sod.
Good luck & thanks Andy, hope you do enough to seal a permanent move – probably best for your career in the long term and hopefully we can recoup the £600k or so we paid (money well spent IMHO)
Good luck Andy!

So the completely unrealistic valuation placed on him last year means that he will likely go on a free at the end of this season of for a token 100K in the January window.
Moxey either does very well (e.g. Johnson) or very badly (far too many to mention) but very rarely okay (Van Damme is the only exception I can think of)
Good look Andy – always liked you, you always give 100% maybe a change of clubs will reignite your career.

2) Wolfhedd, spot on. Keogh started the revolution that took place under McCarthy that paved the way for the success over the last few years; if I remember rightly he came at about the same time as Kightly and Ward. I remember him and Ward forging a decent partnership up front for a few games.
Always remember the goal away at Derby and the assist for Ebanks Blake that sealed our promotion against QPR.
Should be a great acquisition for Leeds.
Good Luck.
Good luck, Andy – you played your part in our successful push for promotion and still rate with Trappatoni. At 25, you have plenty of years ahead of you and I wish you well at Leeds. Sincerely hope it works out for you.

Jarvis made both our goals so who`d like to sell him now? Elokobi made two mistakes in his first 5 minutes coming on! Anyone mentioned we need a left-back lately? Two weeks to go Mick/Steve/Jez.
£600k!!! We will end up paying you in skittles mate, bates is that tight.
Thanks for letting us have him back, and hope his career kicks off again now.
Where is that Kightly lad at the minute?
Good luck, you will do well for them in that league!
Having posted already on Andy, I want to add that Jarvis must not go!
Kightly got a knock in training, but he’s fine & should be on the bench & challenging for a place in the first team against Fulham on sunday!
12 @ LPP, Kightly has just had a full pre season after recovering from his injuries. He got a niggle a couple of weeks ago but otherwise would have been in contention for the Blackburn game. Fitness permitting he should play a big part for us this season.
12.LPP, how about you give us that Max Gradel and we’ll let you have Keogh and Kightly? Deal or no deal?
So another one goes. I know we had a great result on Saturday but what does concern me quite a lot is that teams who may be around us in the reckoning are determined to bring in several more players to strengthen. For example, Stoke City. No one believes Stoke will go down and many are predicting a top half finish for them but their boss wants to continue improving. This should be our philosophy. We still need another CB, LB and CM. Only if we can get these players in can we be virtually assured of a top half or mid table finish ourselves and not another nerve jangling scrap for survival.
I hope that he does well, as the squad numbers are tight and there would be no room for Keogh and probably the Hoff.
Saturday we looked a lot more solid at the back and Hunt and Jarvis did particularly well. If we were to sell Jarvis, I hope that we tell Arsenal that you will have to pay top dollar?
Hopefully, we go out and get a central midfielder and left back. Ward did well but should be in the squad as a utility player with his main position being a forward!
Good luck Andy.
Job done @ Wolves, time to move on.

“Moxey either does very well (e.g. Johnson) or very badly (far too many to mention)”
What a strange comment. What about 25K for Kightly, 500K for Jarvis, 6.5M for Doyle, Hahnneman for free, 400K for Foley, 100K for Henry, 675K for Edwards…shall I continue?
Let us not also forget recouping our exact money for Van Damme (a cracking deal given he didn’t want to stay, he was a year older, and had failed miserably at Wolves) AND getting ONE MILLION for Halford, the best deal (for us) possible for a completely rubbish, non-committed, journeyman, throw-in taker.
How is Moxey anything but spectacularly good at what he does? Would you care to name ANY of the ‘far too many to mention’ very bad deals?
18) Stoke should not be our yardstick. Due to their squad and how long they have been in this division, I can see them being the top Midlands team, in anycase. You can safely say that Man Utd, Man City, Chelsea, Arsenal, Spurs, Liverpool and Stoke have no problems. It could be argued that the remainder could all be potential relegation candidates, though?
There are no easy games in the Premiership but we should be looking at the Fulham and Villa fixtures, as games that we are capable of getting wins!
should have sold him when we had the chance last season for a mill…
Report abuse
Likeable chap, but utterly useless. In the friendly against Real Zaragoza, his run forward, turnabout then run back again epitomises everything about him. Clueless in going forward.
On another note, good to see the article about Stephen Ward. Mick mentions his old Russian mate, Putzin Ashift, which made me smile! :)
He will do well up Yorkshire, I was up there saturday at Blackburn, Blackburn 1 Wolves 2 a great day out on the coach.

Jarvis will not be bought by “ARSENAL” he is not “FRENCH”.
“DOYLE” has been linked with them for the last two seasons and where is he “missing penalities”!
I would certainly sell “DOYLE” has he is just not a goalscorer.
In terms of what he does I have seen both Fletcher and Seb play that role very effectivley.Doyle is becoming a hinderance, has mm will pick him whether he scores or not.DOYLE need’s to be put on the back burner for a while it may get him to perform better when he is aware that his place in the side is not as permanent has it as been.
Ward I want to thank you for the 3 points you gou us on sat, taking into account the 18 you cost us lost season, you need to get us another 15!
Take this has a positive,as it means I am asking for you to be in the team!!!!Must be old age!!I wanting “WARD” in the team!!!WARD I must add your celebrations for the goal were great it was very clear to me kid you have “WOLVES” in your heart. So my baby I am behind you for this go out and continue to prove me wrong.Excellent “WARDY”>

I hope Keogh does well at Leeds. It’s always sad when a career looks to be floundering and a new start just might be good for him.
As for talk of Jarvis leaving ….. why? Good grief, he is a genuine Prem level player on the verge of an international career. Wolves need more players of his calibre, they haven’t enough to be thinking of shedding any!
Grabbing a lb and/or a cd at the price of losing such a talent up front doesn’t make much sense to me.
One look at last years stats suggest not only did we let in too many goals we didn’t score enough either.
now keogh as gone does that mean we will sign the german hitz just a thought now theres room in the 25 man team
Report abuse
Let’s hope this paves the way for the left back we’ve all been calling for, (except of course for Sir Billy Quiet)
absolutely useless footballer… there’s a reason why no-one wants to buy the sack of spuds we call “keogh”… now send Elokobi the same way and we’ll do alright
Report abuse
I rather us get some money for Keogh, but at least he makes space, for any possible signings. On the Jarvis issue with Arsenal.. When was the last time Arsenal signed an English player over 20 years of age.. I can’t remember one.. He prefers buying players he can mould, or foreigners who play a certain way.

1no7 Andy Spot on assessment.IGNORE NO 11.Obviously he has never heard of Frankowski,Robert Taylor, remember not signing Dann, not signing Kuqi for peanuts when he was a kid, signing Maierhofer when Mick wanted Carroll.Remember when he paid a million quid for Ketsbaia and told us we didn’t realise what a good player he had signed.About a year later we sold himfor peanuts.Yes plenty of failures, but he has had plenty of successes as well. The good signings have come when we have a good manager.
2 Andy Keogh promised so much, but could not score the goals for us.I think all Wolves fans will fondly remember that goal at Derby and the first one in the Prem at Wigan.
Andy Keogh should be respected and remembered for playing a major part in our promotion from the Championship.
The fact that he could not step up to the increased demands of the Premiership should not detract from his achievments as a Wolves player when we needed him most, playing alongside SEB.
I wish him well.

Good luck Andy mate, shame it has’nt worked out for you at wolves. All the best.

Sorry no 11,I meant no21,Ulf,another pseudonym singing the praises of our Chief Executive.

26) Being in Ireland, you obviously do not go to many games? Ward never cost us 18 points last season. When he played upfront he actually earned us about 10-12 points…fact.
27) I am not wanting Jarvis to go anywhere, I am just stating rumours and what we need but it looks very much like one more signing maximum, as the Hoff is staying!

The Blonde Bomber!
The colour of the Leeds strip will suit his complexion better.
The most frustrating player at Wolves in recent times. If he could find some confidence he might even be great
Good Luck Andy

“Sorry no 11,I meant no21,Ulf,another pseudonym singing the praises of our Chief Executive.”
Okay, Simon here singing the praises of our wonderful Chief Executive…is that better?
We’re third in the Premier league you whinging, whining little girl, what are you crying about?
Dann is also the worst example of a bad move ever, are you also upset that Moxey didn’t sign Fabregas, Messi, and Ronaldo? How can you be whinging about us NOT signing somebody? Do you think we would be in a better position if we had signed Dann? Perhaps we could be where Birmingham are now, would that be better?
What do we reckon? ..Another £250 k back in the wages ‘pot’?
Probably as good a scenario as we could have hoped for
Holding out to get 2 mill from Leeds a while back… not one of our better negotiations.
Lets kick on from the good start, and bag a couple of quality players pre deadline. Still think our ’25′ is too weak behind the front 14 or so players

i have not got the slightest idea how much he was getting at the Mol but he was not worth that much.

32. Chris. Good teamwork – thanks for that. I think we can add the likes of Shackell, where we paid a million, sent him out a lot on loan, sold him for £500K and then a season later he gets re-sold for £1m. I can’t remember if we lost money on Eastwood or not. We lost on Matt Hill when you chuck in Stephen Elliott moving in the opposite direction (although some might give a negative value to Elliott meaning we were quids in!). I could go on….
I find it odd that Ulf even cites a c. £1m loss on Halford to sing Moxey’s praises. Then he launches into one about Van Damme being excellent work when I had actually used it as the example of an okay deal when at least we didn’t lose money. I should have realised it was an excellent deal simply not to have lost money. I would also add getting money back on Surman as an okay transaction – although he must be worth more than £1.2m now but alas it was not meant to be.
I think Ulf must be a financial advisor. “You’ve only lost half your money – that’s a right result.”
Anyway, we all know why Moxey insists on undisclosed fees!

Good Luck to Andy Keough. He may have not had the ability of some of other players, but he always looked gave 100% effort and commitment to the shirt.
All the best at dirty Leeds.

32 Chris. Joining in the throw-a-stale-pie-at-Jez Moxey so early in the season ? Like you say he’s done some good deals and some poor ones, but, it’s the manager that identifies the targets, surely. Still think, overall, he does a very good job
26 Wanderer in Eire Still trotting out the same old rubbish about Doyle. You really do need to swap that Blue Peter badge for a Coaching badge, then you might start to understand the role he plays.
Spanish Ray. From the Hoff thread. Why do you insist on accusing the 3Ms of telling lies when everybody with a brain knows it’s the media. Explain yourself, man..
Simon, Yes that is better than Ulf.I am not whinging.I am happy as a Moxey pie with our start. We have two decent strikers ,two decent wingers ,a decent midfielder and a centre back who can organise a defence. And Moxey signed them all.Nevertheless I still feel Andy’s comments were accurate and gave you some examples of why.I try and defend our players such as Ward, but Moxey should have broad enough shoulders to admit to his previous mistakes. As Andy said this time last year all the talk was we were looking for £2m for Keogh and we are likely now to end up with nothing ,but a small loan fee.

Andy 41 – Do you think there is a manager or Chief Exec in real life football that has 100% success rate in player recruitment ?
Even the best managers have a long list of failures that can be reeled off…… using this as a way to be critical just shows how desperate some Wolves fans are to find something to moan about.
Thanks and good luck Andy. Great result on Saturday I thought we looked fresh, Sharp and dangerous going forward. Fantastic start wolves can’t wait for Sunday

always give everything he has for us and was part of new regime , shame he has to leave but thats football. wish you nothing but luck andy

Good luck Andy I hope you do well and that Leeds will come up with a fair and realistic offer for you in January.
Kentish – it wasn’t really much of a moan. Initially, I pointed out how daft our valuation was last year for a non-core player which would only interest a Championship side. I can understand sending out young players on loan to get experience/improve but in terms of senior players who are never going to get a look in at the Molineux, surely it’s better to get rid – especially as come January, he’ll be 18 months closer to walking for nothing (from last summer’s £2m valuation) while we picked up his wages in the summer once he’d returned from his last loan spell.
I then responded to Ulf’s claim that engineering a £1m loss on Halford was a example of how well Moxey had done.
I also think that McCarthy has to take his share of the blame as well – although as you correctly point out, there are plenty of other CEO/Managers who have made complete hashes of transfers – so we’re certainly not alone.
Andy – That’s all fair enough, I thought you were having a dig at Moxey in general (as many on here do for no real reason) so my apologies for misinterpreting your original comments.
I have to agree re: Keogh, £2million was always optimistic. I would have thought a deal to get our money back plus some add ons for promotions/goals/appearances may have been more likely, but maybe that wasn’t ever on the table either.

Thanks Andy Keogh,
you done us proud, allways gave 100%,
Hope every thing works out for you at leeds!!
They need you !!
Isnt funny how many fans just dont want our club to do any better !! they are so happy and content with fighting for survival every season, and god help any fan sugesting we should bring in better players.
what happened back in the 80s most fans were saying spend money on the team (john Ireland stand built) went down and bankrupt.
know one can say whens the best time to inprove the ground but shouldn,t the squad be inproved first ??
if twelve players have left or on loan, six of them squad players, they should be replaced with better !! have we done that ?
answers on a post card please !!
over all on the + side of selling players we have not done to well, its not like we,ve made millions of £ but that might change if JARVIS goes !! not what i want but we do seem to have a lot of wingers/wide players and dont forget its one of wards prefered positions !! have we tried him in goal yet ?
got to go now me mum,s called me !! bless
