Jay Spearing rejects Wolves move

Liverpool midfielder Jay Spearing has rejected the chance to join Wolves on loan.

The 22-year-old was offered to the club on a season-long agreement with a logjam of central midfielders available at Anfield.

But Spearing has opted to stay and fight for his place under manager Kenny Dalglish, despite the arrivals of Charlie Adam and Jordan Henderson plus the return to fitness of Steven Gerrard.

McCarthy is considering his options and has also been offered Manchester City’s Michael Johnson.

But Spearing today decided to stay put.

He said: “The first I heard about the Wolves stuff was in the papers and it’s not something that’s been discussed.

“I’m just getting on with giving everything for this club. I’ve got more competition to fight against now but that doesn’t bother me.

“Hopefully, I can now kick on even with the signings.”

Decent player, but not as good as O’ Hara, Hitzelsperger or Johnson. He would not be my choice ahead of any of them. What chance has he of being Kenny Dalgleish’s first choice over Gerrardm Adam or Jordan Henderson. If he wants to sit on the bench at Liverpool, let him. His loss, not ours.

to be fair he hasnt rejected coming to Wolves by these statements……………. Why have you printed this?? He merely says there is no discussions and he only heard about it in the papers. He then says he hopes to kick on this season……….That then begs the question have you completely made this up from the start?? How can he have rejected us if he never had the options as he states!!!

Is any1 else gutted about missing out on Paul Konchesky and Craig Gardner? I mean if lecister can pay Pauls wages why couldnt we? and Craig I reckon we should of broke the wage bank for him, better than henry and blues top goal scorer…. Jay would of been good time to move on though.. Really don’t know where a left back is going to come from esp now warnock is back in the picture at Villa…

    Up the Wolves.

So he was asked to play for the mighty Wolves? only by papertalk! as ever in silly season players get linked with various clubs just because some journo thinks that player will not get a look in with his current club. I am not saying the player in question is not worthy of playing in the premier league, just mearly having a go at journos that make things up then fans believing what has been written. Has the News of the world saga not taught you guys anything???

This article just proves what a nonsense story it was that E&S printed, and even repeated in this article that Spearing “had been offered to Wolves”. The man himself says, “The first I heard about the Wolves stuff was in the papers and it’s not something that’s been discussed.”

Come on E&S, I know it’s slow during the summer, but at least try and keep what remains of your dignity intact and stop just inventing news for the sake of having something to put on here.

Well to be honest the kid is living in dream land if he thinks he has got a chance of being picked over, Gerrard, Adam, Lucas, Henderson & Meireles.

Personally I think we need a big strong centre midfielder to play alongside O’Hara, but I still believe left back is the position we should be addressing before anything else.

Number 17…. ‘ Anything to get Karl out of the middle’.

Where have you been the last 5 years. He came to wolves for peanuts, for the majority of the time we paid hime peanuts, and he has been nothing but commited to the cause from day 1. Please have a little respect for someone who has truly come to represent what this club is about. I would rather have Karl Henry in the team than a foreign player who has been in 3-4 different strips in the last few years. He wasn’t named in a provisional England squad for nothing.

Karl, don’t listen to this fool. Work hard and keep improving. You’ve been a great role model for this club.

Totally agree with 12-Rich5Wolves he hasn’t rejected anything by these comments, you cant reject something that hasn’t been offered to him in person. the other comments are just comments that any footballer will give you, fighting for a place at the club he is contracted to as he hasn’t been offered any sort of deal elsewhere.

No doubt he will read the comments on here and decided he wouldn’t want to come anyway with such negative comments (even if he is offered something officially)

Cant believe people think Hitzlsperger is the answer to our midfield issues. It would just increase them dont need a selfish player we need a strong defensivly minded CM that can pass. For example Hargreaves although we could never afford the wages but someone in his mould.

If he doesn’t want to come then so be it, we only want people at our club who want to play for us. However, I have said before and I’ll say it again, midfield is not our most pressing need – left back followed by central defence is. Go for Bassong and Warnock now and with luck regarding injuries Mick’s top ten desire could well become a reality.

I’ve heard Ridgewell is signing for you guys today, just to say I’m gutted. He has been magnificent for us even though we got him from the vile! He is equally as good at left back or centre half. You guys will love him, he’s 100 percent all the way and good for nicking the odd goal and making assists. He’ll also help Johnson who looked dodgy without damn and the ridge next to him.

Prediction for 2011/12 season – Wolves squad remains the same as today, possibly a midfield addition on loan.Left back will be Big George the Wolverhampton bouncer.
Roger Johnson will improve our back four (could hardly make it worse) and will be partnered by Berra. We will finish 15-17th again on virtue of there being 3 promoted teams worse than us in the league, somehow this will be called progress. The addition of a decent left back, could see us pushing for dare I say mid table…
