Wolves striker Leigh Griffiths is set to be loaned out – but is unlikely to be allowed to be return to Scotland.

The 20-year-old Scot, who is yet to make a competitive appearance since his £150,000 move to Wolves from Dundee in January, scored his first senior goal for the club in last night's 3-2 friendly win at Walsall.

Griffiths has played 45 minutes in both warm-up matches so far this summer.

But manager Mick McCarthy has revealed the Scotland B international is almost certain to continue learning his trade in the Championship or below.

McCarthy said: "Leigh is available and he knows he will be going out on loan somewhere.

"We'll have to see where because there are a few clubs interested in him."

A return north of the border has been suggested, but McCarthy wants to see his continue his education in England against better quality defences.

The Wolves boss said: "Sending him back to Scotland isn't my first choice, but we will see.

"It depends which clubs are available and which clubs want him."
