Wolves defender Christophe Berra was flattered to be linked with Glasgow Rangers - but admitted it was probably the wrong time to return to Scotland.

The former Hearts centre-back is one of the players Wolves are prepared to sell this summer and has been touted with a move back to the Scottish Premier League with the Ibrox giants.

But Wolves would almost certainly want back more than the £2.3million they paid the Jambos in January 2009 for the Scotland international, who has two years left on his contract.

And, despite a takeover, Rangers are operating on a tight budget like most Scottish clubs and are unlikely to be able to afford him.

At 25, Berra has his best years ahead of him and has reeled off 65 appearances in the Premier League in Wolves' two top flight seasons – second only to Matt Jarvis at Molineux.

But Berra is happy to brush off the speculation.

He said: "I read it in the papers and Rangers are a massive club with a huge fanbase, you can never say you'd say 'no' to them.

"But I'm enjoying life in England at Wolves and the Premier League is the place to be in to prove yourself - I'm improving as a player here.

"I've played 60-odd games in the Premier League, so I'd like to think my value has gone up.

"The SPL is going through a wee dip, Scottish football is in the doldrums right now and clubs can't afford to pay big transfer fees.

"It's just rumours and I'm not really paying much attention to it."
