Wolves' new boy Steven Mouyokolo today welcomed the start of pre-season training as he got to know his team-mates for the first time.

As the rest of the nation nursed World Cup hangovers following England's exit to Germany, the £2.5m centre-back from Hull joined the majority of Mick McCarthy's squad at Compton for three days of various fitness tests outside, in the gym and in the sports science laboratory in a phased return to work after their summer holidays.

"The most important thing for me now is to have a good pre-season," said Mouyokolo.

"I want to get to know how the gaffer works and to get to know the other players and everybody at the club. I've signed for many years here and need to settle in and adapt which I will try to do as soon as possible.

"It will be good to be here working with Mick McCarthy and the other players who have done very well over the last couple of seasons. So it will be tough to win a place in the team but I'll just give my best and work as I hard as I can."

Ireland internationals Kevin Doyle and Kevin Foley report back later in the week after playing in internationals at the end of last season.

And the club's World Cup trio Marcus Hahnemann, Nenad Milijas and Adlene Guedioura have been given time off after South Africa.

Long-term injury victims Michael Kightly and Matt Murray will continue with their rehabilitation and they are joined in the gym by Stephen Ward, who had another cartilage operation at the end of the season.
