West Brom 'considering' entering U21s into Football League Trophy

West Brom are 'considering' entering their under-21 team into the Football League Trophy next season.

The English Football League have agreed to allow 16 academy sides from category one Premier League teams to enter the tournament in 2016/17 alongside the 48 teams from League One and League Two.

Each club has until the end of next season to decide if they would like to be involved in the initial one-year trial.

Central to the competition will be the introduction of a new group stage format with 16 regional groups of four teams, which would likely pit Albion's academy team against Walsall.

The top two teams will progress to the knock-out stages of the competition with the final staged at Wembley Stadium in April 2017.
