Albion's goalless draw at Sunderland today put the Baggies on 40 points, the total Pulis starts every season hunting down.

He's reached it with seven games to go this season as the club rubber-stamped their safety in the Premier League.

He said: "Pleased? I'm doing somersaults! Yeah we're pleased, with seven games to go to get to those points is first class for us because we've got some tough games.

"We go to Manchester City, we go to Arsenal, we go to Tottenham, so we need to get the points in the bag.

"It's been such an unusual season this year. When you look below and you look at teams like Aston Villa, Newcastle, Sunderland, nobody should ever - especially at our football club - take anything for granted in this league.

"It's the hardest league and the toughest league in the world."

Pulis was delighted with the reaction his players showed after the disappointing defeat at home to Norwich a fortnight ago.

He said: "We had 39 points, most probably that is safety, and they most probably would have thought that was safety.

"But they've come here and made it really difficult. I'm pleased for them and I'm pleased for the football club that we haven't come here and just been walked over.

"We could have and should have done better in possession of the ball, especially second half, but the resilience and the togetherness and the commitment that was shown by the players was fantastic."

However, Albion also failed to register a shot on target for the second successive game.

It means the Baggies have failed to muster up any shots on target in their four games against the bottom four in 2016. Pulis admitted that it was something of a concern.

Asked if it worried him, he said: "Yeah it does. I think, first-half, we had opportunities and chances and didn't take them.

"Second-half, Sunderland just pushed us back and we knew that was coming because they had to win the game so we had to be resilient at the back.

"That little bit of quality on the turnover of play which we've been missing all season and hopefully that will be resolved.

"We need to push on and get a little bit more quality in certain areas but we're in the Premier League and that is absolutely fantastic for this football club."
