The 16-year-old striker was instrumental in the win at Chesterfield's Proact Stadium in England's U17 European Championship elite round qualifier.

He threaded through a pass to Reiss Nelson just before half-time which the Arsenal youngster roofed into the net to open the scoring.

Leko then turned goalscorer early in the second half, outmuscling the Turkish defence before rounding the keeper to make it 2-0, scoring in front of a crowd of 2,749.

Nelson made it 3-0 from the penalty spot a few minutes later, after Fulham's Ryan Sessegnon had been tripped in the box.

England continued to create a number of chances in the second half, and Leko went close again, before Turkey pulled a goal back late on.

Steve Cooper's side face Finland in Leek at 3pm on Saturday, as they bid to qualify for this summer's European Championships.

Leko made his first-team debut for Albion in the 3-0 defeat away at Norwich City in the Capital One Cup last September.

Baggies defender Kane Wilson was on target for England U16s last night in their 2-2 draw with USA in the Montaigu tournament.

First-team players James Chester, Gareth McAuley, Jonny Evans and Darren Fletcher all came through their respective international friendlies for Wales, Northern Ireland and Scotland unscathed.

Striker Salomon Rondon played 90 minutes in Venezuela's 2-2 draw with Peru in their 2018 World Cup qualification campaign.
