WATCH: Saido Berahino apologises to Albion fans for Deadline Day tweet

Saido Berahino has apologised to Albion fans for sending a tweet saying he would never play for West Brom chairman Jeremy Peace again.

Speaking on the matter for the first time since his deadline day meltdown on social media last summer, the 22-year-old striker also said sorry (four minutes into video) to the club and admitted it was something he regretted doing.

Berahino was keen on moving to Tottenham Hotspur in the summer but Peace rejected four separate bids from the North London club.

One hour before the transfer deadline, Berahino tweeted: "Sad how i cant say exactly how the club has treated me but i can officially say i will never play (for) Jeremy Peace."

The post was eventually deleted, and now, nearly six months later, the Burundi-born marksman has said sorry for the post.

"It is something I look back and I really regret on," said Berahino.

"I should never have said that. I am human like you.

"I make mistakes and I hold my hands up and I say it was a mistake from me and I just apologise to all the fans out there that have always supported me and also the club that has always believed in me."

Berahino came through the club's academy before emerging as Albion's most potent striker.

The England Under-21 international has been the club's top goalscorer for the past two seasons but he was left on the bench for the large majority of this season by head coach Tony Pulis, who said both Berahino's mentality and fitness were lacking.

Pulis started to play Berahino after the January transfer window closed and earlier this week the striker tweeted a photo of himself working hard in the gym.

"I have missed a lot of football and I am just trying to get myself back into match fitness and sharper again like I was last season," he said.

"So my focus is mainly on getting back to what I was last season and finishing really on a high."

Although Berahino sits joint-top of the club's goalscoring charts this season on six goals with fellow strike partner Salomon Rondon, he has missed a couple of glaring headers in recent games against Peterborough and Reading.

"They are bound to go in sooner rather than later," said Berahino.

"It is all about getting yourself into good positions and not trying to think too much about scoring, and are you going to miss or not.

"I am patient with it. I know if I get myself in a good position the goals will come. So I just stay patient and work hard for the team and try and push on."
