Howe made 379 appearances for the Baggies, scoring 19 times during 14 years at the Hawthorns

Howe also managed Albion for four years during the 1970's.

Peace said: "As Chairman of West Bromwich Albion I was very saddened to hear of the death of Don Howe.

"Don made more than 350 appearances for Albion during a successful period for the Club.

"It was also no surprise that, in 2004 as part of our 125th anniversary celebrations, Don was named as one of our best-ever players.

"That alone underlines his status as a true Baggies legend.

"As a coach his reputation reached way beyond The Hawthorns, not least being an integral part of England's two most successful tournaments since 1966 – in 1990, under Sir Bobby Robson, and then as assistant to Terry Venables at Euro 96.

"On behalf of the club, I pass on my condolences and thoughts to his family and friends."

It has been confirmed that Albion players will wear black armbands at Swansea on Boxing day as a mark of respect.

The club will also pay their own tribute when back at the Hawthorns for the clash with Newcastle United on December 28.
