The 22-year-old completed 90 minutes away at West Ham, where Albion's 14-match unbeaten run came to an end courtesy of a 92nd-minute winner from Martin Samuelsen.

Berahino has started on the bench for the first team for the last four games, and has been an unused substitute for the last two.

He didn't play a single minute against Tottenham Hotspur on Saturday, the club who had four separate bids for the striker rejected in the summer.

Back then, Berahino tweeted his frustration over the failed move to Spurs, warning chairman Jeremy Peace that he would never play for him again.

But recently the Burundi-born forward has been the model professional on Twitter.

After the Spurs game he tweeted: "Great team spirit from the lads today, best display of football at home this season so far. #OnToTheNextOne #boingboing #Godwin"

After last night's game for the U21s, he tweeted: "Was great for me to be allowed to play u21s and get 90minutes under my belt tonight, sad there unbeaten run has ended tho!! #OnwardUpwards"

Full-back Cristian Gamboa and Arsenal loanee Serge Gnabry also played for the U21s at Rush Green.

The Costa Rican completed the full 90 minutes while Gnabry was only taken off with six minutes to go.

After a goalless first half, the Hammers opened the scoring in the 52nd minute through Jaanai Gordon.

Berahino levelled eight minutes later with a typically clinical finish from the edge of the penalty area.

James Shan's team were heading for their 15th game without defeat before Samuelsen won the match in stoppage time.

It leaves Albion second in the Barclays U21 Premier League Division Two, three points behind Derby and one point ahead of Arsenal and Aston Villa.

Albion U21s: Rose, Gamboa, Fitzwater, Donnellan, Ezewele, Field (Elbouzedi 65), S.Nabi, Cleet, Gnabry (Roberts 84), Campbell (Leko 56), Berahino.
