The Northern Irish international has enjoyed a fine start to life at The Hawthorns, securing clean sheets against Southampton and Villa in his first two appearances.

Scot Fletcher spent the best part of a decade as Evans' team-mate at Manchester United and has recently revealed he pestered Evans in persuading him to to move to the West Midlands.

After the pair both sat out of Wednesday's cup exit at the hands of Norwich City, Fletcher sent out a warning ahead of Monday's visit of Everton.

He said: "I told him (Tony Pulis) Jonny was a top class defender and, if there was any chance of us signing him, to do all he could to get him here. I rate him very, very highly.

"We had two world class centre halves at Manchester United in Nemanja Vidic and Rio Ferdinand and Jonny went toe-to-toe with them for a number of years."

Everton, who sat sixth in the Premier League with nine points from six games, will be looking for a repeat of last season's scoreline as they head to The Hawthorns.

Former Albion hitman Romelu Lukaku returned to scored on his return last year.

But with Evans continuing to form a promising partnership with Gareth McAuley - the Toffees may find the avenue to goal a tougher one.

Fletcher added: "Jonny is a real top class player, he's a good talker, a good leader and one of the best defenders in the league – he merely suffered with injuries at United.

"He's played two games for us and been excellent. He's not even fully fit yet - when he is we will have one of the best defenders in the Premier League."

Meanwhile, former Albion hero Andy Hunt is returning to the club on Monday as a guest.

The striker, now 45, lives in Belize but is in the UK for a short period and will be presented to supporters in the Fanzone before kick-off.

Hunt spent five years at The Hawthorns, scoring 85 goals in 240 games.
