The Baggies have struggled for goals this season, failing to score in four of their six games so far.

Saturday's 0-0 draw with Southampton – in which they managed just one shot on target – was greeted by boos by some sections of the Hawthorns crowd but former striker Regis reckons supporters need to show patience, after describing Albion as a team in transition.

"Tony is trying to build his own team and there have been quite a few changes over the summer," said Regis.

"You've had Joleon Lescott and Youssouf Mulumbu go out while there have been a number of signings.

"He (Pulis) knows what he is doing but it is going to take time.

Tony Pulis the head coach / manager of West Bromwich Albion.

"We have to wait until he has a full complement of players. Right now, it is far too soon to judge."

Regis, who played 302 games for Albion, admitted the team were lacking in creativity against the Saints.

He added: "I saw Salomon Rondon play against Stoke and Chelsea and he looked bright.

"On Saturday he looked a bit tired and you wonder how much that had to do with playing for Venezuela in midweek. It wasn't a great game, by any stretch of the imagination but people need to stay patient."

Albion head to rivals Villa this Saturday and having seen the claret and blues collapse to defeat at Leicester on Sunday, Regis believes the derby is too close to call.

"You have two teams who are not really firing on all cylinders," said Regis, who also played for Villa between 1991 and 1993.

"I was speechless at what happened to Villa on Sunday.

"When you are 2-0 up you should see out the game.

"For the first hour, they played very well and they looked comfortable.

"Sometimes you have got to have to look at game management, it looked like they lacked a bit of that as a team.

"Having said that, they should take confidence from the first hour.

"Any time Albion and Villa meet it is always a great occasion. This one will be tough to call."
