Saido Berahino's return was the biggest talking point as Albion and Southampton played out an uninspiring goalless draw.

The Baggies striker, who threatened never to play for the club again after being denied a deadline day move to Tottenham, was a 55th minute substitute in a drab game at the Hawthorns.

Southampton's Jay Rodriguez missed the best chance for either side when he headed wide from six yards.

Salomon Rondon went closest for Albion, who failed to seriously test visiting goalkeeper Maarten Stekelenburg.

McManaman was involved in the game's other big talking point when he appeared to be felled by Matt Targett early in the game, but referee Stuart Attwell waved away appeals for a penalty.

Otherwise, this was poor fare with Berahino's introduction, 10 minutes into the second-half, providing the biggest interest.
