Zenit St Petersburg have accepted a fee from the Baggies and the Venezuela forward has finalised personal terms and passed a medical.

Albion hope to gain international clearance for the 25-year-old by Monday, although he will not be eligible to figure in the opening game of the season against Manchester City.

Rondon will join Rickie Lambert and Saido Berahino in the battle for attacking places, but his arrival could pave the way for either Victor Anichebe or Brown Ideye to depart.

The 6ft 3in Rondon moved to Europe seven years ago and played in Spain for Las Palmas and Malaga.

He scored 13 times in 36 league games during two years with Rubin before moving to St Petersburg last summer.

Boss Tony Pulis will now turn his attentions to other targets and the Welshman said: "There has been a couple of Belgians we've looked at and a French lad I'm keen on as well.

"There are four or five players we've tested the waters. It's then which ones suit us and which ones we can do."

James McClean, James Chester, Rickie Lambert, Serge Gnabry and Rondon have all signed for Pulis, while Cardiff goalkeeper David Marshall remains a key target.

However, the Baggies are likely to wait until after the Bluebirds' midweek Capital One Cup game in midweek before pursuing a deal, allowing the Scotland international to complete a three-game suspension more quickly.

Pulis said: "He is a goalkeeper we would like to bring into the football club. It is not as simple, we're not the big four or five clubs who can say they want X amount so we will pay that.

"There has to be loads of negotiations, both in respects to the two clubs and the player. Boaz Myhill is the only senior goalkeeper we have available.

"It is very important we try to get a player in. We have to get Bo through the first couple of games."

Pulis remains keen to add one more defender to his squad, while Queens Park Rangers winger Matt Phillips remains a target, along with Nottingham Forest wide man Michail Antonio.
