Defender Joleon Lescott believes West Brom need a shock result to stay in the Premier League after a dismal end to 'Jeff Astle Day' left them in danger.

Lescott reckons Albion's current haul of 33 points will not be enough to keep them in the top flight after they twice surrendered the lead to lose 3-2 to Leicester City, on an emotional Saturday at the Hawthorns.

And that leaves the Baggies needing a surprise result from their daunting run-in, which starts on Saturday with a trip in in-form Crystal Palace.

He said: "We need more points – we can't rely on others not getting results. We need to dig in. The way it stands, it's in our hands and that's the way you want it to be.

"If you ask the teams below us which position they'd rather be in, they'd say ours.

"Hopefully we will be OK, but the nitty gritty is that it's not about performances or anything like that, it's about results.

"We have to go into every game with a cup final mentality. Every game's a cup final now, that's the way we've been thinking but it's probably hitting home now that we're in the mix.

"We've got the resilience to kick on and get a result next week, that's the ambition. It'll be the focus when we get back to training."

The Baggies twice led but each time they allowed struggling Leicester back into the game before Jamie Vardy won it for the Foxes in stoppage time.

They head for Selhurst Park on Saturday before facing Liverpool, Manchester United, Newcastle, Chelsea and Arsenal in their final five games.

Defeat meant a sad end to a day of events to pay tribute to Hawthorns legend Jeff Astle.

Lescott added: "It was a great occasion and Jeff was obviously a big part of the club. But the result was disappointing."
