Albion are poised to test Wigan's resolve with an improved £5m bid for winger Callum McManaman – as Silvestre Varela and Sebastian Blanco head through the exit door.

The duo, both signed last summer, will see their stays at The Hawthorns cut short as Tony Pulis' January squad rebuilding kicks into gear.

Varela has completed a loan switch to serie A strugglers Parma.

Blanco, meanwhile, is set for a return to his native Argentina, with San Lorenzo leading the chase for the 26-year-old's signature.

Removing both from the wage bill will allow Albion to return with an improved bid for McManaman, who head coach Tony Pulis has made his No.1 choice.

An initial bid in the region of £4m was rejected with Wigan wanting £6m and the two clubs could meet somewhere in the middle.

Manchester United midfielder Darren Fletcher and Swansea left-back Neil Taylor remain on the radar as Pulis looks to reshape his squad ready for the Premier League run-in.

Portugal international Varela, who signed on a season long loan from Porto, made a total of just nine appearances.

There are likely to be further exits, with the futures of both Jason Davidson and Cristian Gamboa uncertain.
