The Argentina international cut his teeth in European football during a three-year stint at Ukrainian outfit Metalist Kharkiv.

His efforts caught the attention of the Baggies and they snapped him up on a two-year deal.

Blanco concedes that he was initially concerned about adapting his game to the demands of the Premier League, but now feels that he has adjusted quickly.

The 26-year-old said: "It wasn't easy leaving Metalist, the negotiations for leaving were very tough, but in the last week of the transfer window interest appeared from English teams.

"When I found out about this chance, to be honest, I was a little nervous because it's a physical style and that isn't one of my strengths.

"But now I think that I made a very good decision and have taken a very important step forward in my career.

"In England, football is played very fast, some players look heavy but they are very fast and everything is dynamic.

"I have been surprised that everything is so professional in England. The smallest teams look like the biggest teams from any other country."

Blanco admits that the presence of fellow Argentine Claudio Yacob at The Hawthorns has helped him to settle in new surroundings.

He added: "Claudio has spent three years in England and has been a great help to me. When you don't speak the language, it is more difficult.

"It's not that I can't say anything, but my English isn't perfect and that's why I have started to study.

"It's not east to adapt. It's not like Argentina, the dressing room is all professional."
