Albion striker Matej Vydra today asked for a first-team chance alongside Victor Anichebe as the Baggies searched for a partnership to save them from relegation.

Vydra netted his second goal for the club to rescue a point from a 1-1 draw with Fulham on Saturday with both he and Anichebe making an impact as substitutes. And the Czech Republic man is now eyeing the chance to link up with Anichebe more often after Thievy Bifouma and Saido Berahino laboured as the Baggies' starting front two at the weekend.

"If me and Victor play together that is better for me because he is strong and I am quick," said Vydra, whose equaliser was awarded with the help of Hawk-Eye goalline technology. It is good for me but it the coach's call. For me it is always better if I play with a strong striker.

"The goal was a big moment for me. I went on the pitch and it was important to score a goal.

"Before the game we needed three points, but we only got one.

"But if we'd lost to Fulham and they'd taken three points they would have been closer to us, so in that way it's a good result.

"We dropped two points but after the game it is a good point for us.

"In the first half we had a chance for Thievy but he missed it and Fulham shot once and scored a goal.

"In the second half they dropped back and just defended."

Vydra saw his 86th-minute shot fumbled by Fulham keeper Maarten Stekelenburg and the ball crept over the line with technology being used for the first time in a Baggies game.

"I knew my goal was in, I saw the ball behind the line," said Vydra.

"But I waited for the referee – and looked to heaven!

"So I'm happy about this goal.

"Every striker needs to score and it's important for me.

"Every player wants to play in the first XI but I'm pleased I went on and made a difference. We need to all pull together for the cause."
