Liam Ridgewell in fitness battle for West Brom's trip to Newcastle

West Bromwich Albion defender Liam Ridgewell is facing a race against time to be fit for Saturday's trip to Newcastle after sitting out last night's derby.

On-loan Macedonia international Goran Popov struggled in his first Premier League start of the season as Villa fought back from 2-0 down to claim a point.

"Liam injured his calf in training the week before last," said Clarke.

"I'm not sure how long he'll be out for.

"He's started jogging again so he's got an outside chance of being ready for the weekend.

"But we've got plenty of games coming up as well so we have to be careful it doesn't become a long-term injury."
