Albion rival Wolves for Ryan Bertrand

Albion rival Wolves for Ryan Bertrand

Albion are considering hijacking rivals Wolves’ move for Chelsea defender Ryan Bertrand.

The Baggies want some serious competition for left-back Nicky Shorey next season and are monitoring England under-21 star Bertrand, who has been offered on loan to both Black Country outfits.

With Marek Cech heading for the exit door this summer, Albion boss Roy Hodgson needs to add strength to his squad and the 21-year-old Londoner fits the bill.

Albion, who also have Joe Mattock’s future to consider, are keeping their options open on the Stamford Bridge prospect.

But whoever comes in will be welcomed by Shorey who said “we have got to kick on.”

Shorey is ready to deal with a new challenge to his Albion place, after urging the club to press on with more signings this summer.

After falling out of favour at both Villa and Albion in recent seasons, Shorey came storming back to the form which took him into the England team as the Baggies soared under Hodgson.

Shorey added: “If you stand still you go backwards in the Premier League.

“It was one of the most competitive leagues ever last season and it’s important  now that we try to improve.”

If he wants first team hoofball, he’ll join wolves, as they haven’t any left backs.

    2) Spouting your normal rubbish I see.
Not too fussed about him. One of many of the England under-21′s that performed poorly in the Championship. Not worth £5m and our poor relations are welcome to him! Konchesky is our first choice and JTH I don’t think that your right winger was saying that we had no left back when facing up to big George?

If Wolves go for him Albion wouldnt be able to hijack the move. Im not sure Wolves are as interested as the paper makes out as we would have tied it up by now.

Purely from a footballing point of view, Albion have to be more of a proposition at the moment as we are deemed to play nicer football and finished in a higher position. Whether it comes down to footballing reasons, who knows.

I am not convinced this is a move we are going to go for anyway. We have Shorey likely to start as first choice. With Cech seemingly on the way out we will be in the market for a back up left back, but won’t Bertrand and Chelsea be looking to ensure regular first team football? Also are we likely to use one of our 2 domestic loans on a back up player? Surely these are more likely to be kept for players who are expected to come in as first choice. I think its more likely we will buy another up and coming left back.

    Boing Boing!!

Well, I would have him any day, good competition for Nicky Shorey. However if he wants to join wolves he obviously wants to play kick and rush and not the Hodgson way. Tough choice, not.

7 Who signed Konshesky for £3m plus?

Also, from what I saw of you at the end of the last season, you dont play the free flowing football anymore. Roy Hodgson has turned you into a team that grind out results.

Give a choice surely any player would choose the mighty Wolves over little Albion.

I think of a number of reasons for selecting Wolves over Albion, actually.

    1. He’ll have more defensive work to do

    2. He’ll be surrounded by players who think they’re Premier League class rather than being the real McCoy – so he’ll have little peer group pressure.

    3. He’ll join a host club with a similar culture to his own: think they’re better than they really are, more money than sense with supporters who don’t live in the real world.

What a typical blinkered Wulf fans comment, what Roy Hodgson did was make us more compact thats all, in the 11 games before he took over we scored 11 goals and conceded 24. In the 11 games after he took over we scored 21 and conceded 19. Doesn’t this suggest he made us more difficult to score against and yet still more of a threat going forward? And he did this with very little time to work with the players.

I cant wait to see what he can get the team doing after a full pre season.

Too many Wolves fans still suffering from “Big Club 60 Years Ago Syndrome” I see. Sorry, but an average attendance of a couple of thousand a game more than us does not make you a big club. I’m sure that many of your girlfriends and wives have already told you that size isn’t everything.
