Jonas Olsson maps out future plan

Defender Jonas Olsson has pledged his future to Albion despite admitting he would like to test himself elsewhere in Europe before he retires.

The Swede plans to at least see out his four-year Hawthorns contract before considering a fresh challenge.

Olsson played in Sweden and Holland before moving to the Hawthorns from NEC Nijmegen in 2008 and the 28-year-old would consider playing in a fourth country before ending his career.

But the Sweden international insisted he is in no hurry to move on.

He said: “I always enjoy living in new countries and learning new languages and I could see myself playing in Italy, Spain or Turkey.

“But it was always my dream to play in the Premier League and I’m happy to have another shot at my dream.

“I am grateful to be here and striving to climb another step on the ladder. I can see myself here for a long time.

“If I’m honest you have to set new targets and dreams to do even better. If you’re playing in Holland then you want to play in a big league like England.

“If you’re playing in England you want to get an even higher club and if you’re at a Manchester United, Chelsea or Arsenal then you want to win trophies.

“But what is important is performing where you are at the moment. If we don’t do that we can’t fulfil our dreams.

“I signed for four years two years ago and that is an indicator that I am happy here and want to stay here.”

Olsson is preparing for his third season in the Premier League and the centre-half is challenging the Baggies to build on this season’s survival by strengthening the squad this summer.

He said: “We need better players to push forwards. We’re a Premier League club for a second season and we need to raise the bar.

“We’re going to California this summer, not Holland, so that’s a step up. Little things like that are important.”

Fresh transfer speculation emerged today concerning Albion but reports of bids from Bayern Munich for Youssouf Mulumbu and Gabriel Tamas are wide of the mark.

However, the Baggies are still in the running to sign Brad Friedel. The veteran Villa goalkeeper has the chance to return to Liverpool but Albion hope they can lure him with the offer of first-team football.

Great to hear Jonas is happy here – he is immense and possibly the best CB I can remember since John Wile (Although i did rate Martyn Bennett).

He is right that to go forward we have to step up in many different ways and for the players, going to the US will seem like a step up which they will respond well to.

Not sure if Friedel is the answer to our GK needs – but at 40 he may come in to help Scotty Carson and be a back up (could replace Deanno AND Myhill…..)

As I’m typing this the sun is out and the rain has moved on, I bet wherever you are there’s a monsoon about to start. Cheer up it might never happen.

These articles are usually the player’s answers to the questions he’s asked. All he was stating is that eventually he will move on and by the sounds of it would like to experince the Mediteranean lifestyle. The statement ‘I can see myself here for a long time’ seems to say it all.

    5) Could be worse, could be like Downing stating he is at a “crossroads” now its rumoured Liverpool are sniffing around, might as well just say “come and get me”

On the subject of well run clubs and good decisions, I see Lokomotiv, Odems old employer, who didnt want him (praise the Lord) is looking to spend 3 mill on Celtics Samaras, stats, all competition this season, 30 starts, 5 goals, and we think them down the road are barking!

Remember the “thanks West Brom” banner with a banana on it? (and no sanctions against them by FIFA, UEFA, or the Russian F.A. who stated the banner was not racist) Going to be an interesting World Cup 2018 when the African nations turn up. FIFA, gotta luv um!

This is extremely good news for Albion fans and a contract extension for Carson would make things even better.
And there’s more good news. Until the new Stan Cullis stand is completed with shops, bar & restaurant, the away capacity is reduced so not so many of you will be there to witness next season’s mauling by the Golden Wanderers.

Are you one of these people that goes onto Dragon’s Den and tries to sell 5% of your brand new cup holder business for 3/4 of a million? Deluded doesn’t come close.

If Albion had just been beaten in a must-win home game and scraped up by virtue of others losing, I think I’d keep my mouth shut.

If that game at the Custard Bowl, when you lot spent half hour mucking yourself after we started playing, constitutes a mauling, I can’t wait until it’s fairly even…..

You’re hoping we renew Carson’s contract, well we’re hoping you renew Foley, Berra, Craddock, Elokobi, Ward, Henry, Mancienne and Stearman’s.

Plus what’s the point of this extension when you can’t sell out against us, in your biggest home match for years?

    Farmer Ted,
Unlike yourselves we have several players of international quality who unless we continue our excellent progress towards finishing in the top half of the Premiership, eventually Europe and convert that progress into trophies then I’m afraid those players will want to move on,such is the way of modern football, the days of the Bomber Brown’s are long gone.
Obviously next season being your third in the Prem and finishing 15th and 17th in your first two and us finishing 11th in our 5th year of premiership football, next year being our 6th,
you will eventually encounter the same problems.

It’s the reason Sir Terry has been missing for a few days. He’s negotiating a lease on one of the shops as his new retail outlet, ‘YOU’VE LET US DOWN AGAIN BANNERS ARE US.’

I don’t know if you saw it but Father Ted said on their side yesterday.
    ‘The Premiership as it stands at the moment is P 0 W 0 D 0 L 0 F 0 A 0 Pts 0
For the moment you are above us alphabetically.
That won’t last for too long. Get ready for second season syndrome, you should remember how it feels, Bryan Robson brought it a few seasons back.’
He’d had to wait all season to say it. Well there was that time they went above us in our bad run but he wasn’t quick enough.

Anyway now Smerrick Eric has cottoned on. ‘It clearly still hurts. Get over it FGS we are currently all on nil points.’
Be prepared for the others to come with it eventually and carry on reciting it. At least until August.

What was the score again, Wolves 2 Blackburn 3. Great reason to break out the Champers, another season of Mad Mick parking the bus unless they keep that digger there.

    Cuckoo cuckoo.

Even though the entrepurnarial skills, and business acumen of Sir Terry are beyond question, and the “you`ve let us down again banners” are a big seller, it is quite seasonal.

So to cover his overheads, the 10 quid a week rent, i can only assume he is working on other slogans………maybe for BRW… a That player didn`t cost enough banner.
For Tim Spiers….the there are 3 worse teams than us banner.
For the majority of them the delusional….there are only 3 teams better than us banner.

    21. WHB. I’m with you 100% on the goalkeeper issue, as has been said before you might remember. Also, before his fan club launches WWIII at me, can I say that I don’t hate him or think it’s right to boo him. I simply don’t believe he’s good enough. I agree that most keepers make mistakes, but Carson makes more than his fair share and that’s a fact. Some argue it’s because he has no confidence in his defence. I think the opposite is the case and the defence has no confidence in him. The second worse GA in the division speaks for itself and clearly things need changing at the back, starting with the goalkeeper. Like it or not that is what is going to happen.
