Walsall must be more clinical in front of goal if they are to maintain their push for automatic promotion, Sam Mantom believes.

Fourth-placed Saddlers travel to take on Burton Albion on Saturday having won just once in their last five League One outings.

Those games have seen Sean O'Driscoll's manage just five goals. And while the boss has largely been pleased with performances, Mantom admits the side needs to be more clinical.

"Goals win games so we've got to try to score more," the midfielder said.

"If you look at Crewe a few weeks ago we had a load of chances and only stuck one away. It's something we need to work on as a team.

"We still need to be solid at the back and try to work on our defensive shape.

"But we do need to be more ruthless in the final third."

Mantom marked his birthday on Saturday with a wonder goal in the 2-1 loss to Wigan.

That strike took his tally for the season to six - his best yet in Saddlers colours.

"My personal best in a season was five so it's really nice to have surpassed it," Mantom added.

"Hopefully I can add another one on Saturday."
