The 32-year-old is focused on maintaining the Saddlers' charge up the League One table, despite losing assistant manager Richard O'Kelly to Bristol City.

The Saddlers are looking to make a quick appointment with boss Dean Smith talking to replacements ahead of tomorrow's trip to Colchester.

And Chambers is eager to forget about O'Kelly's exit and continue the Saddlers' form.

He said: "Nothing changes for us, we carry on and we want to keep the level of performance as it has been over the last seven or eight games.

"If we can do that then we're confident results are going to come. We all enjoyed working with Richard and wish him the best but it's part and parcel of football, unfortunately.

"He's got a good relationship with Sean O'Driscoll, the Bristol City manager, and we all want him to do well."

Walsall are hunting their seventh win in eight games – and fifth on the trot – against struggling Colchester who have lost their last nine.

They are five points adrift of the play-offs but Chambers rejected any talk of a top-six challenge and insisted they cannot look too far ahead after an earlier 16-game winless streak.

He said: "It's too early to say. It's a cliché but you have to concentrate on keeping your performance up and think about the next game.

"We had a bad run earlier in the season, but you have to take it a game at a time. We concentrate on the here and now and not how it's going to end.

"Colchester are a decent side and have some good player, but we will focus on ourselves."
