Walsall to decide on Anton Peterlin

Walsall manager Dean Smith will use the Saddlers’ second friendly against Premier League neighbours to make a final decision on midfield trialist Anton Peterlin.

The 24-year-old is into the final days of a two week trial, with the friendly against Villa tonight presenting him with a final opportunity to clinch a contract with the League One outfit.

And Smith said: “I will speak to Anton tomorrow morning when I shall be making a decision.

“He will play some part of the game tonight, although whether he will start I am not sure.

“But I’ve had a couple of weeks with him and a good look at him now.”

Smith has a clean bill of health with which to run the numbers tonight and is hoping for another 5,000-plus attendance.

He said: “It’s going to be another good test for us. Wolves were able to field two strong teams and Villa will do exactly the same.

“The important thing is to get minutes into the players and I’ll be looking to get 60 minutes of action into 11 players and then giving game time to the rest of the lads.

“There were plenty of positives to come out of the Wolves game and I’m sure it will be the same tonight. “

Agreed. Wasn’t impressed against Wolves, although deano has seen a lot more of him than me! Don’t know much about this McCormack from charlton but having read up a bit he sounds like a better option…UTS.

Personally I thought he ,along with Chambers was Walsall’s best player on Tuesday ….rarely caught in possession ,constantly moving ,excellent distribution . Reminded me of Ryan Harley ex Exeter now with Swansea .
