Tipton's Lee Glover gunning for English title

Tipton's Lee Glover insists he's capable of knocking out Jon Kays and ripping the English super featherweight title from the champion on Saturday night.

'The Tipton Slasher' has been handed a surprise crack at a national crown despite boxing just once since 2011, a points victory over Pavels Senkovs last year.

It was Glover's eighth fight with one defeat, in the featherweight Prizefighter of October 2011 to Choi Tseveenpurev, but he has been catapulted into the title picture.

Champion and experienced former Commonwealth title challenger Kays, from Ashton-under-Lyne in Lancashire, will be in the other corner at the Oldham Sports Centre.

But the 26-year-old believes he can make a real name for himself by doing a number on Kays, like Commonwealth title holder Liam Walsh did in 2011, and taking his belt.

Glover said: "I respect Jon. What I have seen of him, he's a nice tidy boxer and it should be a good fight. I've taken the fight believing I can beat him, so we will just have to see what happens.

"I can see it being about a sixth round stoppage by me, or me beating him on points. Either way, I have trained hard to win the fight and I believe in myself.

"This will be good for me to push on with my career. As an amateur, I had lots of fights and boxed away from home many times.

"I'm just looking forward to getting in the ring and showing the away fans what I can do."
