West Brom 2 Nottingham Forest 2 - Report and pictures

Albion were forced to make do with just a point after a dramatic finale saw Nottingham Forest snatch a share of the spoils in a 2-2 draw at The Hawthorns.

In what was a pulsating Championship clash, Matty Cash rifled in a 90th-minute equaliser for the visitors - with what was his team's first shot on target.

But even more drama was to follow with Callum Robinson finding the back of the net in stoppage time only for referee Keith Stroud to bizarrely rule it out for offside - despite a Forest defender being stood on the goal line.

Prior to the late drama, though, Slaven Bilic' side really should been out of sight.

They took a first-half lead through Robinson before a Kyle Bartley own-goal saw the visitors draw level.

Tobias Figueiredo then scored an own-goal himself to ensure the hosts got back ahead following the re-start.

And from that point, the Baggies had enough chances to win it, only for a combination of excellent goalkeeping from Brice Samba and poor refereeing to keep them at bay.

REPORT

Despite the visit of Forest marking the end of a hectic run that had seen his team play three games in seven days, Bilic opted to stick with the side that was so impressive at both Millwall and Reading when naming his starting line-up.

Sticking with his new 4-3-3 system, Romaine Sawyers effectively operated as a quarter-back in a midfield three with Jake Livermore and Filip Krovinovic given license to bomb forward either side.

Up front, Matheus Pereira started on the right-wing, with Robinson on the left and Hal Robson-Kanu the central striker.

Forest, under the guidance of Sabri Lamouchi, lined up in a 4-2-3-1 formation.

It saw Tiago Silva operate in the number 10 role with Joe Lolly on the right-wing and Sammy Ameobi on the left. Lewis Grabban was the lone centre-forward.

Full of confidence, Albion flew out the blocks with Bilic's side playing with a real intensity in the opening few minutes.

It was Forest, though, who should have opened the scoring early on when Yuri Ribeiro escaped down the left before sending in a cross.

That delivery sailed over Bartley to an unmarked Grabban. But from six-yards the striker planted a header wide when he really should have scored.

Albion regained control and created two decent chances to get themselves in front.

First a free-kick routine straight from the training ground ended with Dara O'Shea seeing a close-range header blocked.

Bartley then glanced another header over the bar after meeting an excellent corner from Krovinovic.

Overall, though, the game was proving to be a fiery Championship encounter between two teams determined not to drop points in the race for automatic promotion.

For Albion, Jake Livermore was lucky to only get away with a talking too following a knee-high challenge on Ribeiro.

Forest, meanwhile, were doing everything they could to frustrate the home side with Pereira in particular on the end of a number of late challenges as they looked to stop the Baggies from getting any rhythm.

In the 37th minute, though, the Brazilian got his revenge when he robbed Samba Sow of possession before charging at goal.

Pereira then slipped in Robinson who expertly opened his body before curling a strike past Brice Samba and into the corner.

Albion seemed in control for the rest of the half. But just seconds before the interval, Lamouchi's side pulled level.

Ameobi sent in a cross which Bartley had to make contact with due to Grabban being well placed just behind him.

But the defender then planted the ball past Johnstone and into his own net.

And that meant Forest made it to the break with the scoreline level despite the fact they hadn't registered a single shot on target.

It was Albion who threatened first following the re-start with a 25-yard strike from Krovinovic scrambled behind by Samba.

They then ramped up the pressure once again as the clock ticked past the hour mark with Bilic's side creating two glorious chances to regain the lead.

First a clever corner saw Krovinovic find Pereira who saw a volley blocked right in front of the goal line by Ameobi.

Then after Samba could only punch clear a cross, Livermore hit a fierce volley towards goal that looked destined to make the net ripple.

But the keeper did brilliantly to jump to his feet and not only stop the effort but hold it as well.

Albion, though were now sensing blood and they regained the lead in the 65th minute when Livermore did incredibly well to pick out a cross at the byline.

The skipper sent the ball right across the face of goal with Figueiredo turning it into his own net as Robson-Kanu looked to pounce.

In response, Forest made a double change with Alfa Semedo and Adama Diakhaby replacing Sow and Ameobi.

Bilic then introduced Matt Phillips for Pereira.

With the rain lashing down, it looked as though Forest would pump balls into the box during the final 10 minutes to try and get something out the game.

Albion, though, had other ideas and created a number of chances to put the game to bed.

After combining well with Krovinovic, Robinson saw a shot from inside the box fly over.

The Sheffield United loanee then produced a lovely strike from 25-yards that a full-stretch Samba tipped wide.

Still Albion, pressed with substitute Kamil Grosicki sending in a cross which Figueiredo again came close to sliding into his own net.

But just as it seemed the Baggies had done enough, chaos ensured.

Forest hauled themselves level in the 90th minute when Bilic's side only half-cleared a cross.

The ball then fell for Cash who rifled in a spectacular strike from 12-yards.

Still, though, the Baggies weren't done and they should have won it with the last kick of the game.

Following a free-kick and a scramble, Robinson powered in a strike which hit the arms of Bartley.

But the defender was behind the goal-line and with a Forest defender stood on it the goal looked like it should have been given.

But referee Keith Stroud opted to rule it out, much to the disbelief of the home crowd.
