The 21-year-old looks set to become Roberto Di Matteo's second signing of the summer following the capture of Bournemouth skipper Tommy Elphick.

Earlier this week, reports emerged suggesting the glovesman was close to agreeing a four-year-deal after Villa agreed a fee with Hellas Verona.

And now Gollini, who was a youth player with Manchester United, has confirmed the move is imminent.

He said: "I am very happy. I'm sincerely sorry to be leaving my town in Italy but it is a big opportunity for me. I've been to see the stadium of 40,000 people and it is incredible. Aston Villa is a glorious club.

"There were several interested clubs, (but) Di Matteo wanted me strongly and I think it will give me a great opportunity. I also thank Verona for getting me to where I am. For the last two years Verona has given me a lot of opportunities. I want to thank the people of Verona."

Meanwhile, the Express & Star understands Burnley are yet to make a bid Villa's Ashley Westwood despite reports to the contrary.

And youngsters Khalid Abdo, Jerell Sellars, Rory Hale, Jozef Pastorek, Joe Linley and Mitchell Clark have all been handed new deals.
