Christian Benteke nears Villa exit

Christian Benteke appears closer to the exit door at Villa after reports Liverpool are now prepared to trigger his £32.5million release clause.

The Reds have been linked with a move for the 24-year-old since May but have previously been willing to meet Villa's valuation.

Finally it appears they are ready to stump up the cash and Benteke will be free to discuss personal terms.

Boss Tim Sherwood has been desperate to keep hold of Benteke, reiterating his belief earlier this week the Belgium international would stay.

But his worst fears look to have come true with Liverpool choosing to quickly reinvest most of the cash banked by the £49m sale of Raheem Sterling to Manchester City earlier this week.
