Rumours began circulating yesterday that Manchester United had joined the hunt for the Belgium international.

However, sources at Villa Park moved quickly to quash the speculation, insisting there had been no approaches for the striker.

Benteke has been heavily linked with Liverpool, as well as a host of foreign clubs including Inter Milan and Roma.

Villa have, meanwhile, been linked with Juventus's want-away defender Angelo Ogbonna, 27, and Leicester City's £5million-rated Jeffrey Schlupp.

Reports in the North East suggest out-of-contract skipper Ron Vlaar is interesting Newcastle United and Sunderland.

Burnley completed a three-year deal for full-back Matthew Lowton last night, reportedly for around £1million.

And Yacouba Sylla is thought to have agreed a four-year deal at French club Rennes. He was signed by ex-boss Paul Lambert two years ago.
