The claret and blues trailed at the break to Phil Jagielka's opener, before further goals from Romelu Lukaku and Seamus Coleman.

Lambert said: "The goals were poor. The first goal we have got to stop the cross better than that. The second goal, obviously our goalkeeper Brad Guzan thinks he should have saved it.

"I've not seen the replay yet, but it's coming from a guy who has saved us on many occasions in games.

"The third goal is a ridiculous goal to lose. It's not right at all. I don't think we done enough to win the game.

"I don't think we deserved anything from the game either. We started really slow which isn't like us.

"We haven't been like that this season. We just didn't come out of the traps.

"It was the first time, I felt, in the run of the games that we've had that we haven't really justified ourselves with the way we played."
