Strikes from Mesut Ozil, a first for the club for Danny Welbeck and Aly Cissokho's own goal settled the Premier League fixture as a contest by the break.

Welbeck had played in Ozil to break the deadlock at Villa Park bang on 32 minutes, his through ball met by a left-footed shot from the Germam past goalkeeper Brad Guzan.

It was 2-0 on 34 minutes when Welbeck found the net, his maiden goal since a £16million move from Manchester United, making no mistake from close range after Ozil turned provider with the cross.

It was all over two minutes later when Cissokho put through his own net and Villa couldn't even manage a reply, as they slipped to their first defeat in the league this campaign.
