Gary Hackett hails 'fabulous night' as Stourbridge FC pull off FA Cup shock

Delighted boss Gary Hackett hailed the greatest night in his managerial career - and took aim at the BBC - after Stourbridge made history by knocking Northampton Town out of the FA Cup.

Jack Duggan's 86th minute winner sealed the shock of this season's competition so far and sent the Glassboys, the lowest ranked team left, through to the third round for the first time at the expense of the Cobblers, who play four divisions above them in League One.

Hackett's men will now head to League Two Wycombe Wanderers on January 7 and while reflecting on a night of triumph at the War Memorial Ground, the manager made reference to the fact last night's tie was ignored for television coverage.

"It is just one of those fabulous nights," said Hackett. "We have created a major upset. I always strongly believed we would do it. The support we had. Everything about the occasion.

"Maybe the BBC should have a look at us. They have ignored us permanently over a long period of time. They didn't think we could beat Northampton but the better side won.

"They (the BBC) didn't believe we could do it. They should have been down here. We are the lowest-ranked team in the competition and we have been ignored.

"Maybe we can have a bit of a giggle now. We have done it. We are in the third round. It is an amazing occasion. We will probably take 1,000 to 1,500 fans to Wycombe. It will be a big day."

Duggan's goal earned the Glassboys a deserved win after they had enjoyed the best of the chances in front of a crowd of 2,520.

Northampton keeper David Cornell twice denied Dan Scarr, while the out-of-sort visitors failed to force Stour No.1 Matt Gould into a serious save over the 90 minutes.

Hackett added: "I have been here with (assistant boss) Jon Ford for a number of years and this is the biggest yet. I still don't think we will get enough credit.

"Wycombe is something for the players to look forward to. It is a proud night for the club."
