Dozens of shoppers waited outside for the doors to open at 8am, eager to get their hands prizes which were being given out to mark the occasion.

The first 100 people in the queue in the store were given golden envelopes, giving them the chance to win top-of-the-range TVs, radios and smartphones.

Olympic medallist Kristian was joined by children from Priory Primary School to open the store and posed for pictures with shoppers.

He was even convinced to show off his gymnastics skills, with a shopping counter taking the place of the pommel horse.

The supermarket has opened less than a year after the King Arthur was bulldozed and has created 35 jobs.

The discount chain saw an opportunity to create a new store on a main route through the Black Country on the site where the King Arthur had been left to become derelict.

Store manager Justin Leich said: "There was a great buzz at the store and customers seemed to enjoy experiencing their brand new store."
