A former police station will be converted into a block of 28 flats after approval for the scheme was finally rubber-stamped.

The proposals for the old station in Birmingham Road were passed in principle in 2014 but it has taken until yesterday for planning obligations to be agreed.

There will be 13 one-bedroom and 15 two-bedroom apartments and 18 parking spaces.

Jacob Sedgemore, of agent Stoneleigh Architectural Services, said: "Everything is now done and dusted in terms of the application.

"It is a good result for all parties which will put a disused building – that is in a prominent location – back into use."

Mr Sedgemore added that preparatory works at the site had already begun. The station, built in the 1960s, has been empty since it was vacated by West Midlands Police in 2012.
