Talks to be held on Sandwell Council geese culling

The controversial geese culling policy will be discussed by Sandwell Council this week following a campaign by protestors.

The scale of opposition by furious activists has prompted the meeting.

A petition containing 4,000 signatures was delivered to council bosses last month by campaigners outraged by the culling.

Some 220 Canada geese from Sandwell parks have been culled over the last two years.

The geese have been taken from Victoria Park in Tipton and Dartmouth Park in West Bromwich as part of attempts to keep numbers under control.

The row has rumbled on since last year when images surfaced online showing the birds being ushered into vans.

The council has previously said that it would review the policy and that killing large numbers of geese was the 'last thing' it wanted.

The meeting takes place at the Council House in Oldbury on Wednesday.
