The driver, who is believed to have fallen asleep at the wheel of a Honda, fled the scene along with three passengers in Great Barr, after receiving medical treatment early Sunday morning.

The crash caused a blue Peugeot 307 to be launched into the air – which landed in the front garden of shocked residents living near the scene.

Three parked cars in total were hit in the crash which happened along Hamstead Road at around 5.15am.

Resident Tracery Roberts, aged 46, whose garden the car landed in, said: "I heard a huge bang – it woke me up, it was like thunder. It set the dogs off, and we shot out of bed to see what was going on.

"I looked out the window and thought my car had been stolen at first –then I saw all the cars smashed up and realised the damage.

"There were five or six women stood on the street – one of them was my neighbour opposite, who's a nurse.

"The women were all dressed up in wedding outfits, and none of them had any shoes on – there was glass and debris everywhere.

"I think there were at least five of them in the car.

"My car travelled quite a distance, so I can only imagine the speed she must've been going at. I was in absolute shock – I just couldn't believe it really. My car is a write-off.

"Not one of them said sorry – someone else pulled up and they got in the car with her, and just drove off without a word."

Tracey's husband Leslie had his green Ford Focus badly damaged.

A third car, also a Focus, was less seriously damaged.

A wedding cake, which was inside the Honda, was left smeared inside the car.

A West Midlands Police spokesman said: "The car has been seized for forensic examination, and officers are making inquiries to trace the registered keeper or the car and the driver.

"Whoever was in the car had left the scene by the time police arrived around ten to 15 minutes after they were called."

A member of Handsworth fire crew said: "Car involved returning from wedding and full of cake! Thankfully, only minor cuts and bruises for the occupants."

Anyone with information should call police on 101.
