"Both me and Rodney are thrilled to bits he's been named as one of the nations sleepiest pets."

The company searched nationwide for pet owners to send in funny or cute photo of their adorable sleepy companion, to be in with a chance of winning the prestigious title and pet shopping vouchers.

Hugo, an 11-year-old Kings Charles – Pug cross from London was judged to be the sleep champion.

The competition coincided with the retailer carrying out a survey into pet sleeping habits.

Almost half of those taking part said that the most common, unconventional place for dogs and cats to sleep in the home was the sofa, while 43 per cent said their owner's bed and 12 per cent of owners admitted that their pet curls up for a kip on the kitchen table.
