Dylan Jackson, from Crosby Close, Whitmore Reans, is standing trial at Nottingham Crown Court.

He is accused of murdering Mr Simpson at his flat in Compton Road on April 13.

Judge Simon Picken said to the jury yesterday: "You should take everything you have heard into account and look to reach a unanimous verdict."

The court heard the death of Simpson was the result of a botched fake drug deal.

Jackson, aged 20, who gave evidence on Monday and Tuesday, claimed that he acted in self-defence after Simpson pulled a gun on him.

Simpson, 47, was pronounced dead shortly after paramedics arrived at the flat, and Jackson went on the run for two weeks before his arrest in Bath, Somerset on April 29.

Jackson denies murder.
