VIDEO: Wolverhampton congestion blamed on problem drop-off point

Bus and coach congestion on a main road into Wolverhampton city centre is affecting motorists and taxi drivers 'every day'.

Published

The buses and coaches block the road at Pipers Row during the morning and evening rush hours as they set down and pick up passengers.

The drop-off point for buses is directly opposite the collection point for coaches, so when the two are in use at the same time, cars cannot overtake due to a lack of space, causing a build-up of traffic.

Taxi driver Minder Pal, who works from a rank at the opposite end of Pipers Row, said: "It causes a problem every day for us, in the mornings and the evenings.

"There is nowhere for you to go and you just have to wait while the people get off or on the coaches and buses.

"The majority of the traffic comes from the bus lane, which is cars coming into the city centre, but they can't get around the bus because of the coach being there, so a queue builds up.

"For us, when we are coming in to town or going out, it creates a problem because you have passengers who are running late for work.

"They get stressed, the meter is still running, but there is nothing you can do.

"Maybe they could look into making Pipers Row a one-way system but I don't really know how the problem can be solved, there isn't anywhere to move the stops."
