The prickly fellow, who is believed to be between four and six weeks old and weighs just 80g, was found at a stables in Swindon by Marie Wintrip.

The 29-year-old from Meadow Road, Finchfield, found him on Tuesday and, with no parents to be found and fearing for his survival, she handed him in to staff at St George's Veterinary Group.

"I arrived at the yard to see my horse as I do on a daily basis and I went to open the gate and saw what I thought was a pine cone, but it was a hedgehog," she said.

Everybody say 'Ahhhhh'

"It didn't look very well or move or anything so I was a little concerned. I went and got him some water and took him to the hay barn.

Little Mo

"A short while later I saw him again and he was trying to make his way up the drive and was squeaking. We rang the vets and asked what to do. They said they would be more than happy to have him themselves and we handed him over."

Zoe Williams, hospital manager at the practice, which is based in St George's Parade, said Mo was doing well and had been given the name as he was very lively and ' running about like nobody's business' just like Mo Farah.

She said: "The plan is that one of our vets will be taking Mo home and waiting until he is a bit older and releasing him into her garden all being well.

"At this age they are on a mixture of meat - cat food - and milk. He could have already been weaned which is why he has probably left the nest. He has got a good chance of survival now because he isn't so reliant on mum."
