The behaviour of Michael Woodhouse, who taught at Hagley Park High School in Rugeley, was branded a 'gross breach of trust' towards the girl by the senior education official who struck him off.

The ban, imposed on behalf of Education Secretary Nicky Morgan, followed a disciplinary hearing in Coventry where the girl described in detail the acts carried out by Woodhouse, aged 38.

Woodhouse did not attend the National College of Teaching and Leadership (NCTL) proceedings yesterday which ended with him being found guilty of sexually motivated 'unacceptable professional conduct'.

Banning Woodhouse from the country's classrooms for life, deputy NCTL director Alan Meyrick said: "This case is a very serious one involving a gross breach of trust towards a female pupil/former pupil and Mr Woodhouse."

He said he accepted the recommendations of the disciplinary panel that Woodhouse should be banned from teaching.

Woodhouse no longer works at the school.
