Bogus callers targeting elderly Wolverhampton residents

Police in Wolverhampton are trying to trace two bogus callers who attempted to con their way into the homes of elderly residents.

Crooks masquerading as council officials tried to gain entry to homes in the city on May 9 by saying they had come to test security alarms.

The first caller is described as a white man in his late 40s of large build with dark hair.

He was wearing a black shirt and black trousers.

The second man is described as white, 45 to 50-years-old, clean shaven, with dark hair and of medium build.

He was wearing a black T shirt with a brown tweed jacket and dark grey trousers.

Police have urged residents to take extra care to stem the threat of distraction burglaries.

PCSO Lee Haynes, of the St Peters and Park Local Policing Unit, said: "We are calling on people to check on elderly residents in the area and to remind them to take on board crime prevention advice.

"Never invite unexpected visitors into your home, use a door chain and ask for ID.

"Keep strangers out of the home until you've phoned the organisation they claim to be from."

Anyone with information about the bogus callers is asked to call police on 101.
