The blaze, which burned for 16 hours at Teknor Apex on Tat Bank Road, is being treated as suspicious by investigators.

New evidence was discovered at the site of the burned-out factory after demolition work got under way.

Watch commander Jason Boyd, from Oldbury Fire Station, said: "We knew where the fire started because one of the directors fought the fire but the demolition of part of the factory has allowed us to get better access to where it actually started.

"The fire investigation officer saw evidence that suggested it was possibly a suspicious fire.

"There are a lot of investigations going on at the moment."

Around 30 workers were forced to flee from the factory as the flames took hold on April 29.

The building was destroyed by the blaze, which at its height was tackled by 75 firefighters.

Roger Davies, the operations manager at Teknor Apex, said he was determined that the blaze would not signal the end of the business and has already begun planning for the future in an attempt to bring the firm back.
