Image released of suspect after sexual assault in Wednesbury alley

Detectives have released an image of a man they want to track down after a serious sexual assault on a woman in a Wednesbury alleyway.

Published

The attack happened as the 26-year-old woman cut through the alley linking Redhouse Avenue and Pound Road just after 9pm on March 9.

Police have now released an e-fit image of the suspect in a bid to trace him.

Officers continue to explore CCTV footage in the area and are working on forensic material gathered following the attack.

After the assault patrols in the area were stepped up to reassure concerned locals and the woman has been supported by specialist sex offence agencies and police officers. She has also been working with a specially trained police artist to produce the e-fit image of the suspect.

The offender is believed to be an Eastern European white man ? possibly Polish ? in his late 30s or early 40s, around 6ft tall and of slim build.

He smelled of alcohol and cigarettes and was wearing a brown leather jacket with a pale stripe, black shoes and dark coloured jeans.

Detective Constable Raj Dulay, from the Public Protection Unit, said: "Crimes like this are very rare and we hope that this e-fit image might jog someone's memory and help us identify the suspect.

"Our investigation has been following several lines of enquiry and now we need members of the public to come forward and assist us.

"If you recognise the man pictured or have any information about him, please contact us as soon as you can. We also want to hear from anyone who was in the area that night and saw anything unusual, no matter how insignificant it may seem."

Anyone with information which may help DC Raj Dulay should call 101. People who don't want to speak with police officers directly can contact the independent charity Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
