Wolverhampton City Council's planning committee this week unanimously turned down the move which would have seen Lounge 107, formerly The Goal Post, removed for good.

An Asda spokesman said:"Our plans for a petrol filling station come as a direct result of listening to our customers who tell us they want a more convenient and competitively priced place to fill up.

The Goal Post

"Over 300 Wolverhampton residents supported this application when asked during an in-store consultation last year.

"We are naturally disappointed to have our proposals refused. This does, however, allow us time to go away and reflect on comments made and consider our next steps."

The pub, located on Waterloo Road, has long been a traditional haunt for Wolves supporters.

It comes after The Wanderer was flattened by bulldozers and The Feathers snapped up by the University of Wolverhampton for use by students.
