Emergency services were called to Park Lane at around 2.20am on Monday morning to the fire at the residential property.

The woman was pronounced dead at the scene.

An investigation into the cause of the fire is underway – but it is not believed to be suspicious at this stage.

Hereford and Worcester Fire and Rescue Service (HWFRS) sent three fire engines to the scene, and tackled the blaze using hose reel jets.

HWFRS group commander, Samantha Pink, said: "This was a very unfortunate incident and our thoughts are with the family and friends at this difficult time.

“Incidents like this are a reminder for everyone to ensure they have working smoke alarms on each level of their home and test them on a regular basis.”

A West Midlands Ambulance Service spokesman added: "We were called to reports of a property fire on Park Lane at 2.31am on Monday, one ambulance, two paramedic officers and our Hazardous Area Response Team attended the scene.

"On arrival we discovered one patient, a woman. Sadly, it quickly became apparent that nothing could be done to save her and she was confirmed dead at the scene."

West Mercia Police officers were also in attendance.
